Chapter 9 - The Eviction Notice He Tried to Hand Me in Front of the Children

The following morning, Raymond attempted one final, desperate act of psychological terrorism.

Knowing he was barred from approaching me or the property, he sent his junior associate attorney, a nervous young man named Bradley, to our front door at 8:00 AM while the children were eating breakfast in the kitchen.

I opened the door to find Bradley holding a certified legal packet.

“Mrs. Foster,” Bradley stammered, sweating through his cheap suit. “I am… I am instructed by Mr. Foster to serve you with a thirty-day Notice to Vacate. The residential deed for 442 Crestview Lane is held under an offshore LLC titled Crestview Holdings, which Mr. Foster claims is not subject to the family court’s temporary possession order. He is demanding you and the children vacate the premises by the end of the month, or he will file formal eviction proceedings with the county sheriff.”

Before I could reply, sixteen-year-old Hannah appeared beside me at the door, holding her smartphone, which was recording Bradley’s face in high-definition video.

“Tell my father that we know about Crestview Holdings,” Hannah said with icy composure. “Tell him we know that LLC was registered using Mom’s stolen architectural license number. And tell him that Judge Holloway is going to see this video in court tomorrow morning as proof of illegal witness tampering and contempt of court.”

Bradley’s jaw dropped. He looked at the camera, then looked at me, realizing he had just walked into a legal slaughterhouse.

“I… I will advise my client accordingly,” Bradley muttered, practically running down the stone steps toward his idling sedan.

I closed the front door, turned around, and looked at Hannah.

“Where did you learn to speak like a senior trial attorney?” I asked, a proud smile spreading across my face.

Hannah smiled back, wrapping her arms around my neck. “I learned it from watching you stand up to him, Mom. We’re not afraid of him anymore.”
