Chapter 6 - The Emergency Board Meeting and the PR Firm That Played Fire with Gasoline

While Marcus Sterling was filing our emergency injunction at the county courthouse, Raymond was in a high-rise conference room six blocks away, desperately trying to contain the blazing inferno of his public destruction.
Sitting around the mahogany table were four senior PR crisis consultants from Apex Strategic Communications, along with Vanessa Reed, who was wearing dark sunglasses to hide her swollen, tear-stained eyes.
“We need to go on the offensive immediately!” Raymond barked, pacing back and forth along the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. “We release a statement claiming Eleanor has severe mental health issues. We say she has been struggling with postpartum depression and paranoia for years, that she coached Chloe to recite those vicious lies out of spite because I was preparing to file for divorce!”
The lead crisis consultant, a seasoned veteran named Donald Vance, rubbed his temples in sheer exhaustion. He tossed a thick binder of printed social media analytics onto the table.
“Raymond, shut up and listen to me,” Donald said bluntly. “The internet isn't buying that. Chloe’s video has twenty-eight million views worldwide now. The hashtag #StandWithEleanor is trending number one across the entire United States. Every major parenting blog, feminist organization, and local news syndicate has picked up the story. If you attack your seven-year-old daughter and your stay-at-home wife who raised six kids by herself, you will commit total corporate suicide.”
“I don't care about the internet!” Raymond screamed, slamming his fist against the glass window. “The First National Bank just issued an ultimatum: either I clear my name within forty-eight hours, or they are calling in the entire fourteen-million-dollar construction loan on the Westside Shopping Complex! If that loan defaults, my entire development company goes into immediate receivership!”
Vanessa Reed spoke up, her voice trembling with anxiety. “Raymond… the school board just sent me an official termination letter. They fired me from the marketing directorship this morning. They cited the morality clause in my contract. My career in this county is completely over!”
“Stop whining, Vanessa!” Raymond snapped cruelly, turning on his mistress with the exact same cold contempt he had shown me for years. “I bought you a five-hundred-thousand-dollar condo and a diamond necklace, and you can’t even handle a little school board gossip? You’re replaceable!”
Vanessa stared at Raymond in sheer disbelief. The glossy illusion of the charming, generous millionaire was evaporating before her eyes, revealing the selfish monster underneath.
Before Vanessa could respond, the heavy glass doors of the conference room swung open.
Two uniformed county sheriff’s deputies stepped inside, followed by a court process server wearing a gray suit.
“Raymond Foster?” the process server asked, stepping forward with a thick stack of blue-backed legal documents.
Raymond straightened his posture, attempting to summon his usual arrogant charm. “Yes, I’m Raymond Foster. What is the meaning of this interruption?”
“You are formally served with an Emergency Temporary Restraining Order issued by Judge Margaret Holloway of the Family District Court,” the process server stated loudly, dropping the heavy documents onto the conference table. “You are ordered to vacate the marital residence at 442 Crestview Lane immediately. You are prohibited from coming within five hundred yards of Eleanor Foster and your six minor children. Furthermore, all corporate and personal assets under your name, including all accounts associated with Foster Enterprises, have been frozen under a judicial preservation order.”
The color drained from Raymond’s face once again. “Frozen? You can’t freeze my payroll accounts! I have hundreds of construction workers expecting paychecks on Friday!”
The senior sheriff’s deputy stepped forward, resting his hand casually on his duty belt. “Mr. Foster, if you attempt to access those funds, contact your wife, or step foot on the Crestview property without a police escort, you will be arrested on sight and booked into the county detention center without bail. Do you understand these terms?”
Raymond sank into an executive chair, the blue court documents staring up at him like a death sentence.

Donald Vance, the PR consultant, slowly closed his laptop and stood up. “Well, Raymond, our contract has a moral turpitude cancellation clause. Consider Apex Strategic Communications officially resigned from your account. Good luck.”
One by one, the consultants gathered their belongings and walked out of the room, leaving Raymond and Vanessa sitting in the cold, silent ruins of their public life.
