Chapter 15 - The Real Parent of the Year and the Golden Sunset Over a Truly Happy Home

That evening, our entire family gathered in the backyard of the Crestview estate for our weekly Sunday dinner.
The long wooden table on the back patio was covered with platters of roasted chicken, homemade garlic bread, fresh garden salads, and Chloe’s favorite chocolate chip cookies.
Sitting around the table were Sarah Jenkins, Principal Evelyn Vance, Marcus Sterling, and my six beautiful, thriving children. The air was filled with laughter, the clinking of glasses, and the warm, golden glow of the setting sun dipping below the Oakridge hills.
Sam and Lucas were playfully debating basketball stats with Marcus. Maya and Leo were showing Evelyn their latest art portfolios. Hannah was showing Sarah her first-semester college course schedule.
Suddenly, seven-year-old Chloe stood up on her wooden chair, holding a sparkling glass of apple cider.
She cleared her throat loudly, mimicking a formal speaker. “Excuse me, everyone! Can I have the microphone? There’s one little detail!”
The entire table burst into affectionate, joyous laughter.
Chloe turned to me, her bright blue eyes shining with pure, unconditional love.
“A year ago, a bad man got a trophy he didn't deserve,” Chloe said proudly, holding up a small, handmade wooden plaque that she and Leo had carved and painted in our new workshop. On the front, in bright golden glitter, were the words:
“ELEANOR FOSTER: THE GREATEST MOTHER, ARCHITECT, AND REAL PARENT OF THE CENTURY.”
Chloe handed the plaque to me, wrapping her small arms tightly around my neck. “This one is real, Mommy. Because it comes from all of us.”
I held the plaque against my heart, looking around the table at the smiling, happy, healed faces of the six children I had fought a war to protect.

The stage lights, the fake trophies, and the glittering lies were gone forever. In their place was the only thing that had ever truly mattered: a home built on truth, unyielding courage, and a mother's boundless love.
