Chapter 5 - Eviction from Paradise

Back at the Austin estate, the scene had devolved into chaotic humiliation.

Leah Mason was frantically packing designer dresses into garbage bags, sobbing uncontrollably while the two newborn babies wailed from their car seats on the porch. Carter Vance, the former head of security, was nowhere to be found. The moment the news broke that the audit had exposed the shell accounts, Carter had emptied his personal locker and vanished, leaving Leah to face the catastrophe entirely alone.

Margaret was screaming at the sheriff deputies as they calmly placed orange eviction notices on the massive wrought-iron gates.

“Do you know who I am?!” Margaret shrieked, her expensive makeup running down her wrinkled cheeks. “I donate millions to the governor’s campaign! I will have your badges by noon!”

“Ma’am,” the senior deputy said without emotion, resting his hand on his utility belt, “step off the driveway or you will be detained for obstruction of justice.”

Evan stumbled out the front entrance carrying a single duffel bag containing a few suits and pairs of shoes. His $200,000 Bentley Bentayga sat in the driveway, but when he clicked the key fob, the vehicle didn't respond. The digital dashboard flashed red: Vehicle Disabled by Fleet Administrator.

“My car!” Evan yelled, turning to Arthur Pendelton, who stood calmly by the fountain. “This car was part of my executive compensation package!”

“Correction, Mr. Rowan,” Arthur replied smoothly. “The vehicle is titled under the corporate fleet of Rowan Meridian. Since your termination for cause, all corporate assets, vehicles, club memberships, and corporate credit cards have been permanently revoked. You may call a rideshare.”

Evan dropped his duffel bag onto the gravel. He looked at Leah, who was dragging her garbage bags down the long driveway toward the gate, the twin babies crying in the midday heat.

“You ruined my life!” Evan screamed at Leah, rushing toward her. “You manipulative, gold-digging whore! You stole my company! You stole everything!”

“You ruined your own life, Evan!” Leah screamed back, her face twisted with venomous hatred. “You’re the one who couldn't have kids! You’re the one who begged me to stay in that penthouse! You wanted an ego boost, and you got what you deserved! Don’t you dare touch me!”

Margaret stood between them, trembling, her hands clutching her head. “Stop it! Both of you, stop it! Evan, we’re going to the country club. We’ll stay in the private suites until our lawyers fix this!”

Thirty minutes later, an Uber XL pulled up outside the gates of the Austin country club.

Evan and Margaret stepped out, disheveled, exhausted, and humiliated. Evan marched up to the front reception desk, demanding the keys to the presidential suite.

The club manager, a man Evan had routinely tipped five hundred dollars every Christmas, walked out from the back office with a cold, formal expression.

“Mr. Rowan. Mrs. Rowan,” the manager said, keeping his hands behind his back.

“Thomas, get our luggage brought up to suite four immediately,” Evan ordered, trying to summon his old authority. “And bring a bottle of Macallan 25 to the room.”

“I’m sorry, Mr. Rowan,” the manager replied, his voice flat. “As of forty-five minutes ago, the board of governors received a formal notification from Sterling Meridian Capital. Your membership, which was funded through the corporate account, has been terminated. Furthermore, under club bylaws regarding members under active federal criminal investigation, your access to the premises has been revoked.”

Margaret gasped, clutching her chest. “Thomas! How dare you! We have been members here for twenty-five years!”

“Security will escort you off the property, Mrs. Rowan,” the manager said coldly, turning around and walking back into his office.

Evan stood in the lavish lobby of the country club as dozens of his former peers—wealthy oil executives, tech venture capitalists, and socialites—stared at him with undisguised amusement and disgust. The whispers were already spreading like wildfire across social media.

The great Evan Rowan wasn't just fired—he got cuckolded by his own bodyguard and evicted by his wife.

Evan’s phone buzzed in his pocket. It was a text alert from the Wall Street Journal:
