Chapter 3 - The Ghost Protocol: The Royal Orchid Concierge Receives a Black-Tier Directive

Within eight minutes of terminating the call with Geneva, the quiet morning atmosphere of the Amanpuri Resort fractured completely.
The resort’s General Manager, a seasoned French hotelier named Henri Laurent who rarely appeared before midday, came sprinting down the grand teak staircase into the lobby, his tie half-tied and his face pale with exertion. Behind him were two senior security directors carrying heavy encrypted communication tablets.
"Madame Sterling!" Monsieur Laurent called out in breathless French, instantly bowing as he reached the private guest lounge. "We received the urgent diplomatic cable from the Swiss Consulate and Bankhaus Von Berg less than three minutes ago. On behalf of the entire management, I offer our most profound and humble apologies! We had no knowledge of your true identity or the criminal actions of your travel companions!"
Nataya, who was still standing by the reception counter, stared in utter disbelief as her usually unflappable boss bowed repeatedly before a woman in silk pajamas.
"Monsieur Laurent, calm yourself," I said in fluent, flawless French, rising gracefully from the chair. "The hotel staff is not at fault. My husband orchestrated this deceit behind your backs. However, I require several immediate accommodations."
"Anything, Madame Sterling! The entire property is at your complete disposal!"
"First," I said, "wire fifty thousand US dollars directly to Nataya’s personal banking account for her prompt and discreet assistance this morning. Second, I need a secure private suite in the presidential wing while your security team sweeps this facility. Third, I need an emergency diplomatic passport issued through the Swiss and US embassies in Bangkok."
"It is already in motion, Madame," Henri Laurent replied, gesturing frantically to his assistants. "A private helicopter dispatched by the Swiss Embassy in Bangkok has already cleared airspace permissions. It will touch down on our private helipad in twenty-two minutes. Furthermore, a personal styling team from the luxury galleria in Surin has been summoned to provide full wardrobe, luggage, and secure satellite communication hardware."
"And the Vance family's flight?" I asked.
The lead security director stepped forward, holding out an updated flight-tracking tablet.
"Mr. Ethan Vance, Mrs. Evelyn Vance, and young Chloe Vance boarded Thai Airways Flight TG922 to Bangkok at 05:40 a.m.," the security chief reported crisply. "They are scheduled for a three-hour layover at Suvarnabhumi Airport before boarding EVA Air Flight BR67 to Taipei, with final connection on Flight BR12 directly to Los Angeles International Airport. Total transit time remaining: twenty-one hours and forty minutes."
I looked down at the moving digital icon representing their regional jet crossing the Gulf of Thailand.
Ethan was likely sitting in business class right now, sipping complimentary champagne, congratulating himself on discarding the wife he thought was an orphan liability. Evelyn was probably already planning how she would redecorate my bedroom in their rented Bel-Air house, or how she would spin a fabricated story to their social circle about how Clara Bennett had 'run off with a lover' in Southeast Asia.
They had twenty-one hours of blissful, arrogant ignorance remaining.
Twenty-one hours before their plane touched down on US soil.
"Prepare my flight," I commanded Henri Laurent. "I do not want a commercial connection. Contact the private charter division at Phuket International. Have a long-range Gulfstream G650 fueled and pre-flighted for a non-stop polar route to Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles. I intend to be standing on the tarmac at LAX before Ethan Vance even clears customs."

"It shall be done immediately, Madame Sterling."
Within thirty minutes, the entire dynamic of my reality had inverted. The frightened, abandoned victim had vanished. In her place stood the sole heir to a global shipping and private equity fortune—armed with unlimited capital, top-tier legal squads across three continents, and an unyielding desire to deliver absolute, poetic justice.
