Chapter 14 - Healing What Was Broken

Six months later, the cold grip of winter had long since surrendered to the radiant warmth of early summer.
The gardens of the Long Island estate were in full, glorious bloom. Vibrant red roses, fragrant jasmine, and lavender bushes swayed gently in the warm ocean breeze coming off the sparkling Atlantic waters.
Beneath a grand white floral canopy erected on the oceanfront lawn, Roman and I stood before seventy close friends, loyal allies, and Dr. Vance to renew our vows.
There were no media cameras. There were no armed guards patrolling the aisles with drawn weapons. There was no political maneuvering, no fear, and no deception.
I wore a breathtaking, lightweight lace gown with an open back that proudly displayed my healed silver scars beneath the afternoon sun. I wore them not as marks of victimhood, but as badges of survival, strength, and victory.
Roman looked at me with tears of pure devotion in his dark eyes as he held both of my hands in his.
"Evelyn," Roman spoke, his deep voice carrying across the gentle crash of the ocean waves. "When you first walked into my life, I thought I was taking a trophy to avenge my brother. But in your courage, your brilliance, and your unbreakable spirit, I found my salvation. You taught me that true power isn't measured by how many enemies you destroy, but by how fiercely you protect the people you love. I vow to stand beside you, to honor you, and to love you through every storm until my last breath."
I smiled through tears of absolute joy, squeezing his hands.
"Roman," I said, my voice steady and filled with unconditional love. "You entered my life when I was trapped in the deepest darkness. You saw my scars and didn't see weakness—you saw truth. You gave me safety, you gave me freedom, and you gave me a love so fierce it healed everything that was broken inside me. You are my protector, my partner, and my home. I am yours, completely and forever."

The priest smiled warmly. "By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you truly husband and wife. Roman, you may kiss your bride."
Roman didn't wait. He pulled me into his arms, lifting me slightly off my feet as his lips met mine in a deep, passionate kiss that sealed our new beginning under the bright summer sky, while our family and friends cheered with unbridled joy.
