Chapter 9 - The Boardroom Massacre: Stripping The Langford Name From The Tower

Six months later.

The summer sun reflected brilliantly off the glass facade of the iconic skyscraper on Park Avenue.

Inside Boardroom A on the 50th floor, an emergency meeting of the full Board of Directors was in session. Preston Langford sat at the end of the long conference table, looking exhausted and worn, accompanied by his high-priced criminal defense attorney. He had spent the last six months fighting off federal indictments and trying desperately to hold onto his remaining shares.

The double doors of the boardroom swung open.

Every director stood up in unison.

I walked into the room, dressed in an impeccably tailored cream-colored Dior power suit, my hair styled in an elegant, modern wave. In my arms, I carried baby Conrad, dressed in a crisp white linen outfit, looking around the bright room with calm, happy eyes.

Behind me walked Julian Mercer and a team of eight corporate litigators.

Preston froze. His breath hitched in his throat as his eyes darted from my face to the baby in my arms.

“Evelyn...?” Preston whispered, his voice trembling violently. “Is that... is that my son?”

“This is Conrad Hart Jr.,” I said, taking my seat at the head of the boardroom table, while Maria gently took Conrad into her arms in the adjoining executive lounge.

I placed a leather-bound corporate resolution in front of the board.

“As the sole executor of the Conrad Hart Estate Holdings, controlling 85% of total voting equity,” I announced, looking across the table directly into Preston’s hollow eyes, “I hereby move to pass Resolution 101.”

Julian Mercer stood up and read the resolution:

“Effective immediately, Preston Langford is permanently terminated as Managing Director and CEO. All remaining equity held by Preston Langford is forfeited under the foundation fraud clawback provisions. Furthermore, the name of this corporation is officially restored to its founding title: Hart Global Enterprises.”

Every single director raised their hand in unanimous agreement.

“Motion carried,” Thomas Sterling declared, bringing his gavel down with a resounding crack.

Preston slumped back into his chair, covering his face with trembling hands as security officers stepped forward to escort him from the building for the final time.
