Chapter 12 - The Courtroom Reckoning: The Forensic Trail That Sealed Preston’s Fate

Following Brielle’s conviction and full cooperation, Preston Langford’s legal defense completely collapsed.
Rather than face a public trial that would air every sordid detail of his deceit before a federal jury, Preston entered into a formal plea agreement with the Department of Justice.
He pleaded guilty to three felony counts of wire fraud and filing false corporate tax returns.
Under the terms of the plea agreement:
Preston surrendered every personal asset, luxury vehicle, watch collection, and offshore trust.
He was sentenced to thirty-six months in federal correctional custody.
He signed an irrevocable legal relinquishment of all parental rights, agreeing to a lifetime restraining order protecting Conrad and me.
On the day of his final sentencing, as Preston stood in his prison-issued jumpsuit waiting to be transported to the facility, he looked across the courtroom at Julian Mercer.

“Tell Evelyn... she was right,” Preston whispered, his voice broken. “Her father was right about everything.”
Julian adjusted his coat and replied with quiet finality: “Ms. Hart is busy building hospitals, Mr. Langford. She has already forgotten your name.”
