Chapter 7 - The Public Charity Gala Ambush: Where The Mistress Stumbled Into A Trap

Two weeks later, the annual Winter Solstice Philanthropy Gala was held at the Plaza Hotel in New York.
Brielle Monroe, believing she could still charm her way back into high society before the federal indictments dropped, attended the event wearing a stunning $80,000 diamond necklace she had acquired using foundation funds. She mingled near the champagne towers, flashing her jewelry and whispering false rumors about Preston’s financial instability to prospective wealthy suitors.
As the charity auction began, the auctioneer tapped the microphone.
“Ladies and gentlemen, before we present our next lot, we have an important announcement from the New York State Attorney General’s Office and the Board of the Conrad Hart Foundation.”
The grand ballroom doors opened.
Four uniformed federal marshals strode down the center aisle, accompanied by lead state prosecutor Sarah Jenkins.
The marshals walked directly up to Brielle Monroe’s VIP table.
“Brielle Monroe?” Prosecutor Jenkins asked, holding up a federal arrest warrant.
Brielle’s glass of champagne shattered against the marble floor. “What... what is this? I’m a guest here!”

“You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, money laundering, and grand larceny in connection with the theft of twelve million dollars from the Hart-Langford Children’s Initiative,” Jenkins announced clearly, her voice echoing across the silent room. “Furthermore, under judicial order 44-B, all assets purchased with stolen funds—including the Harry Winston diamond necklace currently around your neck—are subject to immediate seizure.”
Before five hundred of New York’s most prominent elites, the marshals unclasped the diamond necklace from Brielle’s neck, placed her in handcuffs, and led her out of the ballroom in tears of absolute humiliation while society photographers captured every single second for the morning tabloids.
