Chapter 4 - The SoHo Confrontation: Brielle Monroe's True Motives Exposed

By 4:00 PM that afternoon, Preston’s world was crumbling around him.
The board meeting had been a bloodbath. Without Evelyn’s proxy vote, Preston was unable to block the board’s resolution. He had been placed on mandatory administrative leave, stripped of executive access to the building’s servers, and ordered to surrender his company laptop and security keycards.
Desperate for comfort and reassurance, Preston took a private cab to the luxury duplex in SoHo he had leased for Brielle.
He used his brass key to open the door, expecting to find Brielle waiting with a drink, ready to reassure him that they would weather the storm together.
Instead, he walked into the living room and found four large designer suitcases standing by the door.
Brielle was frantically throwing jewelry boxes, designer handbags, and expensive cashmere coats into a fifth trunk.
Preston stood in the foyer, stunned. “Brielle? What are you doing?”
Brielle didn't even look up. “What does it look like I’m doing, Preston? I’m packing. My lawyer called. He said the state prosecutors are going to freeze this apartment within forty-eight hours because the lease was paid with misappropriated foundation funds.”
“Where are you going?” Preston stepped closer, his voice rising with disbelief. “We’re in this together! I bought you this apartment! I bought you that car! I risked my entire marriage, my reputation, and my company for you!”
Brielle stopped, turning around to face him with an icy, mocking laugh that cut deeper than any blade.
“You risked everything for me?” Brielle sneered, crossing her arms. “Don't flatter yourself, Preston. You didn't do this for me. You did this because you’re a weak, insecure narcissist who couldn't stand living in the shadow of Conrad Hart’s daughter! You wanted a woman who would stroke your pathetic ego and tell you that you were a genius!”
“Brielle... how can you say that?” Preston stammered, horrified.
“Because it’s the truth!” Brielle snapped. “You aren't a visionary billionaire, Preston. You’re an employee who married into royalty and stole from the charity jar the moment you thought nobody was looking! And now that Evelyn has pulled the plug, you’re completely broke. I’m not going to federal prison for your stupidity.”

She zipped her suitcase with a violent tug, rolled it past him toward the door, and looked him up and down with sheer disgust.
“Have a nice life, Preston. Lose my number.”
