Chapter 13 - Brandon’s Desperate Public Smear

Two weeks later, Brandon managed to secure a high-interest bail bond through a secondary lender, putting up his late father’s classic car as collateral.

Instead of keeping his head down and preparing for his criminal defense, Brandon launched a desperate, vicious public relations counterattack.

He appeared on a local conservative podcast and published an eight-minute video on Facebook, sitting in his defense attorney’s polished conference room with a manufactured look of solemn persecution.

“I am the victim of a coordinated parental alienation campaign,” Brandon claimed into the microphone, his voice choked with theatrical emotion. “My wife was overwhelmed by her mother’s passing and suffered a severe psychological breakdown. I made an honest, administrative scheduling error with our family vacation, and instead of resolving this as a loving family, she has weaponized the state police to strip a father of his home and his children.”

The video garnered fifty thousand views in twelve hours.

Dozens of internet strangers began leaving threatening comments on my social media profiles, calling me an ungrateful wife and demanding that Brandon be restored to his home.

My attorney, Arthur Pendelton—the same veteran family litigator who had represented my mother’s estate—called me immediately.

“Arthur, should we release a public statement?” I asked, feeling the exhaustion creeping back into my bones.

“No, Evelyn,” Arthur replied with a cold, confident chuckle. “In the legal arena, when your opponent is busy digging his own grave, you never take away his shovel. Brandon just violated the gag order signed by Judge Sullivan three days ago. And tomorrow morning is the preliminary evidentiary hearing.”
