Chapter 10 - The Billionaire Walks In: Breaking The Chains With Iron Authority

Standing in the doorway, supported only by a sleek black carbon-fiber walking cane, was Lucas Bennett.
He was flanked by three high-powered defense attorneys in thousand-dollar overcoats and Marcus with four armed private security operators. Lucas looked pale, his chest strapped tight beneath a dark woolen coat, but his eyes burned with an icy, terrifying fury that froze every police officer in the room.
“Mr. Bennett!” Detective Miller stammered, jumping to his feet with his hand instinctively hovering near his holster. “You shouldn't be here! You’re supposed to be under medical observation at—”
“I am the sole master of my own medical care, Detective,” Lucas said, his voice ringing with absolute, crushing authority. “And if you don't take those handcuffs off Bailey Vance in the next three seconds, I will personally purchase the debt on this precinct’s pension fund and liquidate it by sunrise.”
One of Lucas’s attorneys stepped forward, slapping a thick stack of certified judicial orders onto the metal table.
“This is an emergency injunction issued twenty minutes ago by Chief Justice Robert Vance of the Illinois Supreme Court,” the attorney announced crisply. “Julian Bennett’s fraudulent conservatorship petition has been vacated. All charges against Miss Bailey Vance are dismissed with prejudice due to gross procedural misconduct and fabricated evidence.”
Detective Miller looked at the judicial seal, swallowed hard, and pulled a small key from his pocket.
He stepped over and unlocked my handcuffs.
The moment the metal clicked open, my legs gave out. But before I could hit the floor, Lucas dropped his cane, lunged forward, and caught me in his arms.
He pulled me against his broad, solid chest, wrapping his arms around me protectively. The scent of cedarwood, expensive wool, and pure safety enveloped me. I buried my face in his shoulder, trembling as the tears I had held back finally broke free.
“I’ve got you,” Lucas murmured fiercely into my hair, his hands holding me as if I were the most precious treasure in the world. “You’re safe, Bailey. No one will ever touch you again.”
“How did you get out?” I sobbed against his neck. “Julian said—”
“Julian underestimated who built this empire,” Lucas replied coldly, lifting my chin with his hand so his piercing gray eyes locked onto mine. “Marcus intercepted Julian’s medical transport team before they left the hotel perimeter. I’m taking back everything they tried to steal. Starting with you.”
He turned to his security team. “Clear the corridor. We’re going home.”
Lucas led me out of the precinct, his arm wrapped firmly around my waist. Outside, a convoy of four black armored SUVs waited beneath the falling snow, their engines humming in the midnight air.

As the car pulled away from the curb, Lucas looked at me, his expression turning deadly serious.
“Julian played his final card tonight, Bailey,” Lucas said. “Tomorrow morning, we destroy him.”
