Chapter 13 - The Trial of the Century

Two months later, the Southern District Court of New York was surrounded by hundreds of reporters, camera crews, and cheering crowds.

Inside the courtroom, the gavel came down with the finality of an executioner's blade.

"On the counts of grand larceny, international antiquities trafficking, wire fraud, and conspiracy," Judge Harrison declared, his voice echoing across the packed chamber, "this court sentences Arthur Kensington to thirty years without the possibility of parole. Sabrina Kensington is sentenced to eight years for corporate complicity. And Preston Vance is sentenced to twenty-five years in federal penitentiary."

Preston broke down in tears, sobbing openly into the defense table as the marshals escorted him away in chains. As he passed the gallery, he caught Alex’s eye one last time.

Alex sat in the front row, looking radiant in an ivory Chanel suit. Dante sat beside her, his fingers intertwined with hers on his lap, a gold ring gleaming on his hand. Preston saw the way Dante looked at her—with absolute devotion, respect, and love—and realized that he had lost the greatest treasure of his life to a king he could never hope to match.

Outside the courthouse, a wall of microphones was thrust toward Alex and Dante as they stepped down the stone steps into the bright spring sunshine.

"Miss Sterling! What is next for Sabbes Auction House?" a reporter yelled.

Alex smiled into the cameras, holding her head high. "Sabbes has been reorganized as a fully independent, non-profit cultural preservation foundation. Every stolen artifact has been returned to its rightful country of origin, and my mother's name has been completely cleared by the International Arts Council."

"And what about your relationship with Dante Moretti?" another reporter called out.

Dante stepped forward, pulling Alex gently into his side. He looked directly into the cameras with an unapologetic, triumphant smile.

"Alexandra is no longer Miss Sterling," Dante announced to the world. "She is my wife."
