Chapter 14 - The Greatest Gift

Dante took the envelope with a puzzled expression.

He untied the silver ribbon with steady fingers, sliding out the folded document inside.

As he opened it and read the medical report from Northwestern Memorial Hospital, his hands suddenly began to shake.

The ruthless titan who had stared down armed assassins without blinking, the man who had brought Chicago’s most ruthless crime syndicate to its knees in twenty-four hours... went completely speechless.

His eyes scanned the words again and again.

Patient: Harper Moretti.

Result: Positive. Estimated gestational age: 8 weeks.

“Harper...” his voice broke, a rare, breathtaking crack in his composure.

He looked up at me, tears glistening in the corners of his hazel eyes.

“Are we... are we having a baby?”

I nodded, tears of pure happiness spilling down my cheeks. “We’re having a baby, Dante. In seven months, you’re going to be a father.”

Dante dropped the paper, gathered me into his arms, and buried his face in my neck, holding me with a depth of emotion that words could never capture. I could feel the wet warmth of his tears against my skin as he held both me and our unborn child against his heart.

“I promise you,” Dante choked out, his voice filled with fierce, sacred reverence. “I will spend every single day of my life making sure this child grows up in a world filled with light, laughter, and love. You have given me everything I never believed I was worthy of having.”

“You are worthy of all of it, Dante,” I whispered back, kissing his temple. “You saved my life. Now we’re creating a new one together.”
