Chapter 15 - The Dawn After the Longest Night

One Year Later — Zurich, Switzerland

The golden morning sun poured through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of a private chalet overlooking the crystal-blue expanse of Lake Zurich and the snow-capped peaks of the Swiss Alps.

Down on the emerald-green lawn below, thirteen-year-old Tommy—now sporting a full head of thick brown hair, healthy rosy cheeks, and thirty pounds of solid muscle—was laughing hysterically as he kicked a soccer ball back and forth with a golden retriever puppy.

The experimental CAR-T cellular therapy had worked miracles. His bone marrow biopsy three months ago showed complete, total molecular remission. Tommy was officially cured.

A pair of strong, warm arms wrapped gently around my waist from behind, pulling me back against a broad, solid chest.

Liam rested his chin on the top of my head, the clean, crisp scent of the alpine air and his familiar cedarwood cologne enveloping me in complete safety.

The scars across his torso and leg had healed into faint, silvery lines—reminders of a past life that no longer held any power over him. Over the past twelve months, Liam had completely liquidated his Chicago underworld holdings, turning over all evidence to federal authorities to dismantle Russo’s remaining network, and converted his vast fortunes into legitimate international medical research foundations and clean maritime logistics.

He was no longer a crime boss living in the shadows.

He was the man who loved me.

"What are you thinking about, Nurse Vance?" Liam murmured softly into my ear, his rough hands resting over mine.

I turned around within his embrace, wrapping my arms around his neck, looking up into those piercing blue eyes that were no longer cold or haunted, but radiant with peace and unconditional love.

"I was thinking about the day I walked into that dark room in Chicago," I smiled, running my thumb across the sharp, handsome line of his jaw. "And how you threw a glass at my head."

Liam chuckled, a deep, rich sound that vibrated straight through to my heart. "I was an idiot who thought darkness was the only way to survive."

He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small, velvet box. He flipped it open to reveal a breathtaking, flawless sapphire ring that mirrored the exact brilliant blue of his eyes, surrounded by a halo of diamonds that caught the bright Swiss sunlight.

Liam took my left hand, his fingers steady, his gaze locking onto mine with an eternity of devotion.

"You tore down my darkness, Clara," he whispered, his voice thick with raw emotion. "You healed my body, you saved my soul, and you brought light back into a life that was already dead. Will you marry me?"

Tears of pure, unadulterated joy spilled down my cheeks as I laughed through my sobs.

"Yes," I breathed, throwing my arms around his neck as he lifted me off my feet. "A thousand times, yes!"

May you like

Liam captured my lips in a deep, passionate kiss beneath the warm, brilliant alpine sun—a light we would never, ever have to hide from again.

THE END
