Chapter 11 - The Mobilization

Liam limped to the safehouse’s secure terminal, sliding a military-grade cryptographic key into the server drive. Within minutes, encrypted channels opened across the Midwest.

For two weeks, the underworld believed Liam Mercer was an incapacitated invalid on the brink of death. That illusion was about to become his greatest tactical weapon.

"Marcus," Liam spoke into the headset. "Activate the Vanguard units. All fifty men. Heavy tactical loadouts. Converge on the South Chicago dry docks, grid four. Nobody fires until I give the primary breach signal."

"Understood, Boss," Marcus’s voice crackled back with fierce loyalty. "We’ve been waiting for this call for two years."

Liam spent the next two hours prepping his gear. He removed the external fixator from his leg himself, biting down on a leather belt while I carefully extracted the pins under sterile field conditions, replacing the metal rig with a tight, high-tech carbon-fiber combat brace that locked his knee and tibia into rigid stability.

"You're insane," I whispered through tears as I wrapped heavy compression bandages around his reconstructed limb. "The pain alone should make you pass out."

"Pain is just information, Clara," Liam said, his face pale but completely composed as he strapped an armored Kevlar vest over his chest. "And right now, that information is telling me to bring your brother home."

He handed me a lightweight tactical vest and a fresh, loaded sidearm.

"You stay in the command surveillance van with Marcus," Liam instructed firmly. "You monitor Tommy’s vitals on the portable telemetry link. The moment my team secures the boy, Marcus will escort you both straight to O'Hare International, where a private medical jet is fueled and waiting for Zurich."

"And what about you?" I demanded, clutching his lapels. "What happens to you, Liam?"

Liam looked down at me, his eyes softening with an infinite, tender warmth. He leaned down, kissing me deeply and passionately.

"I finish what started the day Elena died," he whispered against my lips. "And then I come find you in Switzerland."
