Chapter 15 - A New Forever

One year later.

The three-story Fifth Avenue penthouse was completely unrecognizable from the cold, sterile museum it had once been.

The stiff white tablecloths and pretentious modern art were gone. In their place were warm hardwood floors, colorful rugs, walls covered in framed family photographs, and the joyful, infectious sound of a little girl’s laughter echoing through the sunlit halls.

In the grand living room, four-year-old Lily—now glowing with health, dressed in a bright yellow sundress—was chasing Julian Vance, who was playfully pretending to run away in terror from her stuffed rabbit.

“The rabbit is too powerful! I surrender, Miss Lily!” Julian laughed, throwing his hands up as he collapsed onto a giant plush armchair.

Lily giggled wildly, jumping up and down in pure triumph.

Out on the expansive rooftop terrace overlooking Central Park, the spring breeze carried the sweet scent of blooming cherry blossoms.

Rosa stood by the glass railing, wearing a flowing white linen dress, her dark hair dancing gently in the wind as she looked out over the glittering skyline.

Marcus walked up behind her, wrapping his arms securely around her waist and resting his chin softly on her shoulder.

Rosa leaned back into his chest with a soft, contented sigh. “What are you thinking about?”

“I’m thinking about how quiet this place used to be,” Marcus whispered, kissing the side of her neck. “And how I never realized I was completely dead inside until a three-year-old girl in pink socks walked up to my chair and whispered under the table.”

Rosa turned around in his arms, wrapping her hands around Marcus’s neck, looking up into the eyes of the man who had given her and her daughter a new life.

“She knew you were a hero before the rest of the world did,” Rosa said softly, her thumb gently tracing his jawline.

Marcus smiled—a smile filled with pure, unyielding peace.

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, navy velvet box.

Rosa gasped softly, her breath catching in her throat.

Marcus dropped down to one knee on the sunlit terrace, looking up at the woman who had transformed his world.

“Rosa,” Marcus said, his voice deep, steady, and rich with emotion. “For ten years, I lived in a fortress of grief and stone. You and Lily brought light, laughter, and love back into my life. You taught me what it means to truly live.”

Marcus opened the box, revealing a breathtaking, flawless emerald-cut diamond ring surrounded by delicate platinum petals.

“Will you do me the greatest honor of my life? Will you marry me, Rosa, and let me love you and Lily forever?”

Tears of pure, overwhelming happiness spilled down Rosa’s cheeks.

“Yes,” Rosa whispered, her voice breaking with joy. “A thousand times, yes!”

Marcus stood up, slid the ring onto her finger, and pulled her into a passionate, breathtaking kiss as the afternoon sun bathed the penthouse in golden light.

“MOMMY! MR. MARCUS!”

They broke apart, laughing, as Lily came running out onto the terrace, holding her stuffed rabbit high in the air.

Marcus knelt down and scooped Lily up into his arms with one arm while wrapping his other arm tightly around Rosa.

Lily looked at the sparkling ring on her mother’s finger, then looked at Marcus with big, mischievous hazel eyes.

“Mr. Marcus?” Lily asked seriously.

“Yes, Miss Lily?” Marcus smiled.

“Do I have to look under the table this time?”

Marcus and Rosa burst into joyous, ringing laughter that echoed across the Manhattan skyline.

“No, sweetheart,” Marcus said, kissing Lily’s cheek and holding Rosa close against his heart. “From now on, there are no more secrets. Only love.”
