Chapter 11 - Broadcast of the Damned

“Get him off this stage!” Diana shrieked, losing her composure completely. “He’s insane! He broke into my home, he assaulted our staff, he’s dangerous!”
Marcus didn't even look at her. He tapped the titanium pad in his hand.
Instantly, the massive 40-foot ultra-high-definition projection screens behind the main stage—which had been displaying the Caldwell corporate logo and stock tickers—flickered violently.
A loud static tone ripped through the ballroom speakers.
Then, the screens switched to a crystal-clear video feed:
It was the high-definition security footage from Marcus’s penthouse dining room four nights earlier.
The entire ballroom watched in stunned silence as the screen showed three-year-old Lily pointing her tiny finger at Diana’s chair, followed by the high-definition zoom of Marcus pulling the military-grade transceiver and the fraudulent biometric contract from beneath the table.
The audio played across the room with terrifying clarity:
“Irrevocable Transfer of Evelyn Ellison Memorial Tech Holdings to Caldwell Global Capital upon Execution of Matrimonial Intent...”
Gasps erupted across the eight hundred guests. Several Senators stood up, backing away from the stage.
“Turn it off! Cut the power!” Richard Caldwell roared, lunging toward the stage AV console.
“You can’t cut the power, Richard,” Marcus said coldly, standing motionless. “Because this isn't running on the hotel’s servers. It’s broadcasting via Ellison Quantum Satellite Relay to every news station in North America, Europe, and Asia right now.”
The screen shifted.
Now, it displayed the decrypted files from the Riverhouse vault: certified bank wire records, secret offshore shell corporations, and high-resolution scans of signed assassination orders bearing Richard Caldwell’s personal signature and seal from fifteen years ago.
Then, an audio recording filled the room—the voice of Arthur Sterling, recorded minutes before the fatal laboratory explosion:
“Richard Caldwell has threatened to incinerate this facility if I do not surrender the master override keys to the maritime tracking network. Evelyn Ellison and I have hidden the master data. If I do not survive tonight, let it be known that Richard Caldwell is a murderer and a traitor to this nation...”
The entire ballroom erupted into absolute chaos.
Reporters in the press gallery began shouting questions, broadcasting live to millions of viewers worldwide. Board members who had supported Richard moments ago scrambled off the stage like rats fleeing a sinking ship.
Diana collapsed onto the velvet sofa on stage, hyperventilating, her hands covering her face as the flashing cameras of the international press immortalized her ruin.
Richard Caldwell stood frozen, his eyes wild, his entire thirty-year criminal facade collapsing in real time before the eyes of the global elite.
Marcus stepped closer to the ruined patriarch.
“Ten years ago, you murdered my mother,” Marcus whispered, his voice vibrating with absolute righteous fury. “Fifteen years ago, you murdered Arthur Sterling and threw his daughter into the streets. You thought power, money, and fear made you invincible.”
Marcus leaned in, his eyes piercing through Richard’s soul.
“You were brought down by a three-year-old girl with a stuffed rabbit.”
At that exact moment, the heavy double doors of the ballroom burst open once more.
This time, it wasn't a solitary billionaire.
Fifty heavily armed Federal Bureau of Investigation tactical agents, led by the Director of the SEC Enforcement Division and New York State Troopers, marched into the room with weapons drawn and arrest warrants in hand.
“Richard Caldwell! Diana Caldwell!” the lead FBI agent shouted over the roar of the crowd. “You are under arrest for corporate espionage, federal wire fraud, racketeering, and two counts of first-degree conspiracy to commit murder!”

As the handcuffs snapped around Richard Caldwell’s wrists, the old man looked at Marcus with pure, unadulterated hatred. “You think you won, Ellison? You think this is over?”
Marcus adjusted his cuffs, his expression completely devoid of mercy. “For you, Richard? It’s over forever.”
