Chapter 15 - A Sunrise Over the Atlantic

One year after the night Arthur texted me from the airport, a brilliant, golden sunrise broke over the Atlantic Ocean outside the panoramic windows of my newly restored estate in Marblehead, Massachusetts.

The air smelled of fresh sea salt, blooming hydrangeas, and fresh morning coffee.

Vance Global Capital had just posted its most profitable fiscal year in history, its philanthropic foundation having donated ten million dollars to establish educational scholarships for single mothers across New England.

I stood on the wide mahogany deck overlooking the private marina, holding a warm porcelain cup of Earl Grey tea in my hands.

Beside me, my new golden retriever, Barnaby, rested his head against my knee, his tail swishing lazily against the deck boards.

David Cole—who had become not only my most trusted business partner, but a man whose quiet integrity, unwavering loyalty, and deep, gentle love had healed my heart—walked out onto the deck carrying a plate of warm blueberry scones.

"What are you thinking about, Eleanor?" David asked softly, wrapping a strong, warm arm around my waist, kissing my temple.

I looked out over the sparkling blue ocean, the white sails gliding across the water, and the endless, beautiful horizon of a life fully reclaimed.

"I'm thinking about how peaceful the world is," I smiled, leaning back against his chest, "when you finally take out the trash."

I raised my cup toward the rising sun, took a slow, joyful sip of my tea, and smiled as the morning light filled my life with forever peace.

The End
