Chapter 15 - A Love Forged in Fire and Forever

One year later.
The summer sun beamed down warmly over the lush, manicured vineyards of Tuscany, Italy.
The scent of blooming jasmine, sweet grapes, and salty Mediterranean breeze filled the warm air. On the terrace of a breathtaking 16th-century stone villa overlooking the rolling hills of Florence, a grand wedding celebration was underway.
Dante had kept his promise.
Over the past twelve months, he had completely dismantled the violent, illegal operations of the Moretti syndicate, transferring all wealth into legitimate shipping lines, real estate, and global philanthropic foundations. Gianna, stripped of her criminal ties, had been exiled to a quiet convent estate in southern Italy to live out her days in peaceful obscurity.
The underworld of Chicago was a distant memory. Here in Tuscany, there were no guards with automatic rifles. No panic rooms. No shadows.
Only peace.
I stood before a full-length mirror in the bridal suite, adjusting the delicate lace veil that flowed over my ivory silk wedding gown. My hair fell in soft, elegant waves around my shoulders, and the single piece of jewelry I wore was the delicate silver locket containing a photograph of Isabella and me side by side.
"You look breathtaking, Mama!"
I turned around with a radiant smile as Matteo toddled into the room, dressed in an adorable miniature linen tuxedo. He was almost two years old now, with bright, curious hazel eyes and a laugh that brought joy to everyone who heard it.
"Come here, my handsome little prince," I beamed, scooping him up and kissing his chubby cheeks.
"Dada is waiting!" Matteo giggled, pointing toward the garden terrace where the string quartet had just begun playing the bridal march.
Taking a deep, grateful breath, I carried Matteo down the stone steps and out onto the terrace.
Hundreds of close friends, legitimate business partners, and loyal family members stood up, their faces beaming with warmth.
And there, waiting for me at the end of an aisle paved with white rose petals, stood Dante.
He wore an immaculate charcoal three-piece suit that set off his broad shoulders and commanding presence. The scar on his cheek was still there—a reminder of the battles he had fought—but the darkness in his eyes was completely gone, replaced by a radiant, overwhelming love that took my breath away.
As I reached the altar, Dante took Matteo into one arm, then reached out with his other hand to gently lift my veil.
His dark eyes were filled with unshed tears of pure happiness.
"You are the most beautiful woman in the universe, Elina," Dante murmured, his voice rich and steady. "Thank you for saving my son. Thank you for saving me."
"You gave me a life, Dante," I whispered back, my heart overflowing with love. "You gave me a family."
Before the priest could even begin the formal vows, Matteo reached out with his little arms, wrapping one around my neck and the other around Dante’s, pulling our faces together until our foreheads touched.
"Family," Matteo proclaimed proudly in his sweet, clear voice.
The guests erupted into joyful laughter and applause.
Dante smiled—a wide, breathtaking, uninhibited smile that transformed his entire face. He leaned down, capturing my lips in a deep, tender, passionate kiss that sealed our eternal promise to each other.
As we finally parted, I took Dante’s hand and gently placed his palm over my lower stomach.
Dante froze. His eyes widened in stunned, ecstatic realization as he looked down at my flat belly, then back up into my tear-filled, radiant eyes.
"Elina...?" he whispered, his voice trembling with pure awe. "Are you...?"
"Matteo is going to be a big brother," I smiled, a tear of pure happiness rolling down my cheek, catching the golden Tuscan sunlight.
Dante let out a triumphant roar of pure joy, scooping both Matteo and me into his arms, lifting us off the ground as the entire vineyard erupted in cheers, music, and celebration.
The ghosts of the past were finally at rest.
