Chapter 11 - The Federal Raid On Julian’s Shell Companies And The Seizure Of The Bearer Bonds

By Wednesday morning, the full weight of the United States Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Internal Revenue Service had descended upon every entity associated with Julian Sterling.

A joint task force executed seventeen search warrants across New York, New Jersey, and Florida.

At a private warehouse in Secaucus, federal agents recovered three fireproof vaults containing $42 million in bearer bonds, six hundred ounces of physical gold bullion, and the master server housing the unencrypted communications between Julian and his international money-laundering network.

The United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York held a televised press conference at noon:

"Today, Julian Sterling has been indicted on forty-two federal counts, including kidnapping, attempted murder, wire fraud, bank fraud, tax evasion, and interstate transport of stolen property. Given the overwhelming physical, digital, and testimonial evidence, the government will be seeking life imprisonment without the possibility of parole."

Inside the hospital room, Arthur sat up in bed, eating a bowl of fresh fruit, watching the news broadcast on the wall-mounted television.

His color had returned; his eyes were sharp, bright, and commanding once again.

Daniel and Claire entered the room, carrying a fresh leather portfolio.

"The board has formally ratified the resolution," Daniel reported, sitting beside his father. "The sale to Vanguard has been permanently canceled. All shares held in Julian’s name have been seized and redistributed to the employee pension trust under your direct instructions."

Arthur reached out, his hand resting on Daniel’s shoulder.

"You didn't just save my life, Daniel," Arthur said, his voice thick with emotion. "You saved the soul of this family."
