Chapter 12 - The Secret Shell Accounts in Delaware

Special Agent David Vance pulled out his service handcuffs.
“Marcus Sterling, you are under arrest for Aggravated Attempted Murder, Conspiracy to Commit First-Degree Assault, Deprivation of Civil Rights Under Color of Law, Evidence Tampering, Felony Embezzlement, and Corporate Wire Fraud,” David recited with crisp, lethal precision.
David grabbed Marcus by the collar of his tailored tuxedo, dragged him out of the leather dining chair, and shoved him face-first onto the mahogany table.
CLICK-CLACK.
The cold, heavy steel handcuffs ratcheted tightly around Marcus’s wrists.
“Eleanor!” Marcus screamed, his cheek pressed flat against the polished wood beside the carved turkey. “Eleanor, please! Think of what this will do to our family! I made a mistake! I lost my temper! I’ll sign over the house! I’ll give Chloe the entire trust fund! Just tell your son to drop the federal charges!”
I walked over to the table and looked down at the pathetic, sweating creature pinned beneath my son’s hand.
My voice was quiet, calm, and as cold as the sleet falling outside.
“At 5:02 this morning, Marcus, you called me and told me to pick up my garbage. You told me my daughter was trash, and that you didn't have time for her inside your house.”
I leaned down, looking directly into his bloodshot, terrified eyes.
“You looked at an old woman with grocery coupons and thought I was powerless. You looked at my daughter’s kindness and thought she was weak. You forgot that before I was a mother, I spent thirty years putting arrogant, greedy predators like you in iron cages.”

I stood up and nodded to David.
“Get this garbage out of my sight.”
