Chapter 12 - The Raid on Warehouse 9: Carmine’s Ruthless Protection

The old Chalmette sugar refinery rose against the dark night sky like an iron skeleton, surrounded by thick marshland and overgrown reeds.

Rain fell in heavy sheets as Carmine’s convoy pulled up to the rusted gates.

Inside the cavernous, echoing refinery floor, Conrad Bellarose stood on an elevated metal catwalk, surrounded by eight heavily armed mercenaries in tactical gear. His face was gaunt, his eyes bloodshot from days of panic and cocaine.

"You came alone, Orsini!" Bellarose shouted over the roaring rain on the corrugated roof. "How foolish! You think you rule this city? I built this town with the politicians!"

Carmine walked into the center of the vast concrete hall, his hands in the pockets of his dark trench coat, completely unfazed by the red laser sights dancing across his chest.

"You didn't build anything, Conrad," Carmine’s voice rang out, clear and chillingly calm. "You stole from old men. You burned down bakeries. You hired thugs to shoot at my docks."

"And tonight, I take your shipping lines!" Bellarose screamed, raising his hand to signal his snipers. "Kill him!"

Before the trigger could be pulled, the high-pressure steam valves across the entire refinery floor ruptured simultaneously.

Nell had guided Benny through the underground drainage tunnel directly into the boiler control room. With a massive iron wrench, Benny had overridden the pressure regulators, flooding the entire upper catwalks with blinding, deafening clouds of white-hot steam.

Gunfire erupted blindly into the mist, but Carmine had already moved.

With lethal precision, the Orsini enforcers swarmed from the shadows. Within two minutes of chaotic, echoing gunfire, all eight mercenaries were disarmed and pinned to the wet concrete.

Bellarose stumbled down the metal staircase, blinded by steam and coughing violently, only to find the cold steel barrel of Carmine’s pistol pressed firmly against his forehead.

"Game over, Conrad," Carmine whispered.
