Chapter 15 - A NEW EMPIRE

Six months later, the sun shone brightly over the newly renovated Blackwell Estate gardens.

The marble pathways were lined with white roses.

A string quartet played softly in the background—not Vivaldi played in secret while fear gripped the halls, but joyous music celebrating a wedding that the entire city of Boston whispered about with a mixture of awe and respect.

Kate Bennett stood in front of the full-length mirror in the master suite.

She wore a breathtaking, hand-tailored white lace wedding gown, her hair swept up in an elegant chignon.

Her arm was completely healed, strong and unblemished.

The door opened, and Damon walked in.

He wore a classic black tuxedo, his dark hair threaded with gray, looking every bit the ruthless mafia boss who had conquered an empire—and the man who had given her his entire heart.

He stopped dead in his tracks, staring at her.

"You take my breath away," he whispered, walking slowly across the room.

"You used to say I was just a maid hiding in a storage room," Kate teased softly, turning to face him with a radiant smile.

"You were never just a maid, Kate," Damon replied, taking her hands in his.

"You were the queen I didn't know I was waiting for."

Downstairs, three hundred guests waited—judges, politicians, international business leaders, and loyal estate staff who now ran the most powerful philanthropic foundation on the East Coast.

Her mother was seated in the front row of the VIP pavilion, healthy, smiling, and surrounded by top-tier medical care funded by an endowment that would never run dry.

Senator Caldwell was serving a twenty-year federal sentence in a maximum-security prison.

Preston Caldwell had fled the country, never to return.

And the fifteen men who had once thought they could rule the shadows of Boston were nothing more than a forgotten memory.

Damon leaned down and kissed her softly on the lips.

"Are you ready, Mrs. Blackwell?" he murmured against her mouth.

Kate looked into his dark, loving eyes, feeling the absolute peace and absolute power of her new life.

"I've never been more ready in my life, Damon."

Hand in hand, they walked out of the master suite and down the grand staircase toward their future.
