Chapter 13 - THE WEDDING AMONG THE BOOKS

The wedding was held on a golden autumn afternoon in the courtyard behind Maple Street Books.

There were no corrupt politicians.

No rival syndicates.

No assassins crashing the reception.

Just a small gathering of genuine friends, my supportive uncle, and a few of Daniel’s most trusted former capos who had successfully transitioned into legitimate real estate development.

I wore a simple ivory lace dress, holding a bouquet of white roses.

When the minister pronounced us husband and wife, Daniel pulled me into his arms and kissed me with a passion that made the crowd cheer and applaud.

Olivia was nowhere to be seen—she had skipped town months ago after her mortgage was called in by a very unsympathetic bank.

Jason had tried to send a congratulatory text, which Daniel kindly fed directly into a paper shredder.
