Chapter 14 - The Reckoning and Justice Served

On a golden afternoon in late June, the grand courtyard of the Moretti estate was transformed into a paradise of white hydrangeas, blooming jasmine, and soft silk ribbons.
There were no press cameras. No armed guards in tactical gear visible to the eye. Only the gentle music of a live harpist drifting through the warm summer breeze.
In the front row sat my mother, looking healthy and radiant, wiping happy tears with a lace handkerchief beside Mrs. Carter and Dr. Patterson.
At the end of the flower-lined aisle stood Luca Moretti.
He was breathtaking in a bespoke black tuxedo, his eyes fixed entirely on the archway at the end of the path.
The harp music shifted into the processional hymn.
I stepped onto the white runner, holding a bouquet of white roses and blue delphiniums—the exact color of the blanket that had saved Bruno’s life.
My wedding gown was an exquisite masterpiece of French lace and silk, designed with an open back that proudly displayed the faint, silver line of the healed scar across my shoulder—a badge of honor, courage, and unconditional love.
And walking proudly beside me down the aisle, trotting with a rhythmic, steady gait on his healed hips and wearing a custom blue silk bow tie around his golden neck... was Bruno.
The entire gathering gasped in delight, soft chuckles and tearful smiles rippling through the guests as the old dog proudly escorted his new mistress toward his master.
When we reached the altar, Bruno sat down obediently at Luca’s feet, letting out a soft, happy huff of breath against Luca’s polished dress shoes.
Luca looked down at the dog with deep affection, then raised his eyes to mine.
The raw love, devotion, and reverence shining in his gaze took my breath away.
"You are the most magnificent woman I have ever seen," Luca whispered, his voice trembling slightly with emotion as he took both of my hands into his.
The minister began the ceremony, his words carrying over the tranquil gardens:
"We are gathered here today to unite two souls who proved that true strength is found not in dominion, but in protection; not in wealth, but in loyalty; and not in pride, but in love."
When it came time for the vows, Luca looked directly into my eyes, speaking without reading from a card:
"Emma, you walked into my life when it was surrounded by darkness, deceit, and cold stone. You bled to protect the memory of my mother and the life of a helpless creature. You taught me that a home is not built of iron and concrete, but of kindness and courage. I vow to stand as your shield, your partner, your lover, and your eternal protector for as long as breath remains in my body."
Tears of pure happiness streamed down my cheeks as I spoke my vows:
"Luca, you showed me that I never have to face the storms of this world alone again. You gave my family safety, you gave an old dog his life, and you gave my heart a home. I vow to love you fiercely, honor you completely, and walk beside you through every shadow and every light until the end of time."
"By the power vested in me," the minister announced with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Luca, you may kiss your bride."

Luca swept his arms around me, pulling me against his heart, and kissed me with a passion so profound that the entire gathering erupted into joyous applause.
Bruno barked twice in pure celebration, wagging his tail so hard he brushed against the floral arrangements.
