Chapter 15 - A Table Reserved for Eternity and the Dawn of a Brand New Legacy

Six months later.
The intersection of Michigan Avenue and Erie Street was glowing under a warm autumn sunset.
A crowd of hundreds stood outside the newly renovated flagship restaurant, waiting for the evening service to begin. Above the magnificent mahogany and brass entrance, brand new gold lettering gleamed against polished black marble:
CARTER & BROOKS

Inside the dining room, the atmosphere was magical. The scent of roasted garlic, aged ribeye, and fresh rosemary drifted from the bustling open kitchen where Chef Antoine Vance—his hand fully recovered—was barking joyous orders to a team of smiling line cooks.
Every employee in the building was now a shareholder, receiving full healthcare, living wages, and profit-sharing bonuses under the newly instituted Carter Charter.
In the quietest corner of the restaurant, tucked beneath a magnificent oil painting of David Carter and Ethan’s late father raising a glass together, sat Table Eight.
Ethan Brooks sat in the leather booth, dressed in a tailored midnight-blue suit, smiling as Mia approached the table.
She wore a stylish black managerial blazer over a cream silk blouse, holding a leather-bound menu and two crystal glasses of vintage champagne.
"Good evening, sir," Mia said, her green eyes sparkling with playful warmth. "I see you’ve been sitting here for ten minutes without ordering. Is there something wrong with your table?"
Ethan chuckled softly, reaching out across the white linen to gently take her hand. His thumb traced the small, faded burn scar on her wrist—a reminder of where they had begun, and how far they had climbed together.
"I was just waiting for the executive managing director to join me," Ethan replied, pulling her gently into the seat beside him.
Mia sat down, leaning her head against his shoulder as the dining room filled with the warm, vibrant laughter of happy guests.
"You know," Mia whispered, clinking her glass against his, "if you had eaten that steak six months ago, I would never have discovered that you look ridiculous in a forty-dollar polyester jacket."
Ethan laughed, pressing a tender kiss to her forehead. "And if you hadn't slipped that note under my glass, I would have spent the rest of my life looking for a partner with your courage."

Together, they raised their glasses toward the painting on the wall, honoring the past that had brought them through the fire, and toasting to the unbroken future they were building together, side by side.
