Chapter 14 - From Wounded Maid to the Heart and Soul of the Brooks Mansion

Over the next six months, the Brooks estate underwent a miraculous, breathtaking transformation.
Grace’s physical wounds healed completely, leaving only a tiny, faint silver line along her cheekbone that Daniel often kissed with immense tenderness, calling it the mark of an angel’s bravery.
Grace formally resigned from her position as a domestic maid. When Daniel tried to transfer a five-million-dollar reward into her bank account as a gesture of gratitude, Grace flatly refused to take a single dime.
“I didn't save Lucy for money, Daniel,” Grace had told him with quiet dignity in his study. “I saved her because I love her. You can't put a price tag on a family’s heart.”
Instead of accepting money, Grace used Daniel’s vast philanthropic foundation to establish The Amelia & Milo Foundation—a multi-million-dollar non-profit organization dedicated to building safe shelters, providing free child trauma therapy, and funding pediatric medical care for underprivileged families across Texas and Oklahoma.
Grace threw herself into the foundation work with passion and grace. She walked the halls of hospitals, sat on the floors with traumatized children just as she had with Lucy, and quickly became one of the most respected, beloved philanthropic figures in the entire state.
Meanwhile, Lucy blossomed into an unstoppable force of sunshine.
The little girl gained healthy weight, her cheeks turned rosy, and her laughter once again echoed through every corner of the vast mansion. She attended an elite private preschool in Dallas, where she proudly showed off Milo the wooden rabbit during show-and-tell, telling all her classmates that Milo was a magic rabbit who helped her daddy find the best mommy in the whole world.
Daniel changed just as dramatically.
The cold, brooding corporate tycoon who worked eighteen hours a day disappeared. Daniel restructured his multi-billion-dollar empire, stepping down from active daily management to become Executive Chairman, delegating operations so he could be home every single afternoon by four o’clock.
Every evening, Daniel, Grace, and Lucy ate dinner together at the grand dining table. They baked together, took long walks through the rose gardens, and read bedtime stories together in Lucy’s room until the little girl fell asleep nestled between them.
The bond between Daniel and Grace grew into a deep, unshakable, all-consuming love.
Daniel admired Grace’s pure heart, her sharp intellect, and her unwavering moral compass. Grace saw the profound tenderness beneath Daniel’s powerful exterior—a man who would move mountains to protect the people he cherished.
One warm autumn evening, after Lucy had fallen asleep holding Milo, Daniel took Grace’s hand and led her out into the newly redesigned rose gardens.
At the center of the garden, where the old carriage house had once stood, Daniel had commissioned a breathtaking marble gazebo surrounded by blooming white roses, illuminated by hundreds of soft, glowing fairy lights strung through the weeping willow trees.
At the center of the gazebo stood a small bronze pedestal. Sitting atop it was a beautiful, lifelike bronze sculpture of Milo the rabbit, with an inscription etched in gold:
“To Grace: Who taught a broken family that love is brave enough to heal the deepest wounds.”
Grace stood in the center of the illuminated gazebo, tears of pure joy glistening in her eyes as she read the words.
