Chapter 15 - The Lion and the Heiress

Six months later.
The summer sun cast a brilliant golden glow over the manicured lawns and stone terraces of the Blackwood Ridge estate.
The old gothic mansion was no longer a dark, abandoned mausoleum. The dust covers were gone, replaced with vibrant floral arrangements, warm sunlight pouring through polished floor-to-ceiling windows, and the laughter of trusted allies echoing through the grand halls.
On the grand stone terrace overlooking the rolling pine forest—the exact same terrace where the photograph in the old album had been taken thirty years ago—a private celebration was underway.
Leo stood near the outdoor bar, wearing a tailored tuxedo that looked uncomfortably tight on his massive frame, regaling three district captains with an embellished tale of Sadie’s marksmanship in the sub-vaults.
Sadie stood near the stone balustrade, holding a glass of vintage champagne.
She wore a breathtaking emerald-green silk evening gown that flowed around her curves like liquid jade. Her long, dark hair fell in soft, elegant waves over her bare shoulders, and around her neck hung a delicate platinum necklace holding a single, flawless diamond—a gift from Declan on the day the final maritime merger was signed.
Warm hands slid gently around her waist from behind.
Declan pulled her back against his chest, pressing a soft kiss against the side of her neck, right beside her pulse point. He was impeccably dressed in a bespoke midnight-blue tuxedo, looking every inch the king of the city.
“You look magnificent, Alessandra,” Declan murmured against her ear.
Sadie turned in his arms, smiling up at him as she adjusted his black silk bow tie.
“And you look surprisingly relaxed for a man who just signed a ten-year maritime treaty with the international union,” she teased softly.
Declan chuckled, his hands resting possessively on her hips. “When my co-chairman drafts the contract, I never worry about the outcome. You’re more ruthless with legal clauses than I am with a firearm.”
“I learned from the best,” Sadie said, clinking her champagne glass against his.
Declan looked into her amber-flecked eyes, his expression turning deeply tender and sincere.
“Three years ago, you walked into my office asking for a job as an assistant,” Declan said quietly. “I thought you were just a quiet girl who wanted a safe paycheck.”
“And six months ago,” Sadie replied, her voice soft and full of emotion, “I knocked on your door barefoot and bleeding, thinking I had run to a monster.”
Declan smiled, leaning down until their lips were inches apart.
“And what did you find?”
Sadie reached up, running her fingers through his dark hair, her heart full of peace and unshakeable certainty.
“I found my home,” she whispered.
Declan closed the distance and kissed her deeply under the golden afternoon sun, sealing a partnership born in blood, tested by fire, and crowned in love.
