Chapter 9 - The Foundation's Dark Truth and the Stolen Biometric Codes

The kiss was electric, born from fire, danger, and an unspoken bond forged in blood. When we finally parted, breathless in the quiet hum of the medical room, the gravity of what lay ahead hung heavily in the air.

Mara sat up, testing the mobility of her bandaged shoulder. She winced slightly but nodded in satisfaction. "The encrypted drive from Sterling's terminal. We need to decrypt it before Vance realizes we have it."

We moved to the tactical room. Finn had already connected the flash drive to an isolated air-gapped supercomputer.

"Encryption is twenty-four-character quantum-level," Finn muttered, chewing on an unlit cigar. "It would take a standard mainframe six months to crack this."

"It won't take six months," Mara said, stepping in front of the keyboard. "Vance always uses operational call-signs from his old task force in Kandahar. Try Ghost-Zero-Nine-Niner with an inverted hexadecimal shift."

Finn typed the code. The screen flashed red, paused, and then bloomed into a vibrant green: ACCESS GRANTED.

Dozens of classified folders spilled onto the monitors.

"Look at this," Mara whispered, leaning over the console.

It wasn't just corporate sabotage. The files revealed that Donald Wexler, Arthur Sterling, and Victor Vance had formed a shadow cabal ten years ago. They had orchestrated the assassination of my parents because my father refused to let them weaponize the foundation’s medical patents.

For a decade, they had used the foundation's global logistics network as a front to transport black-market biometric weapons. The final piece they needed was the master activation cipher for Bio-Shield—which was hardcoded into the biometric DNA database stored at Wexler Tower.

"Vance has the delivery systems loaded onto a modified cargo freighter at Navy Pier," Finn said, his voice grim. "If they upload the Bio-Shield cipher tonight, the weapons become active. They can sell them to the highest bidder by tomorrow morning."

"There's an override command," Mara pointed out, highlighting a line of code. "If someone uploads a counter-virus directly into the primary terminal at Wexler Tower while the transfer is occurring, it will permanently corrupt the Bio-Shield files and trigger a self-deletion protocol."

"The terminal is located on the 80th floor of Wexler Tower," I said, studying the architectural blueprints. "It’s a glass fortress. Vance will have his entire mercenary army guarding it."

"Then we divide and conquer," Mara said, her eyes blazing with tactical clarity. "Finn takes a tactical strike team to Navy Pier to intercept the freighter before it can leave the harbor. You and I infiltrate Wexler Tower, upload the virus, and face Vance ourselves."

"It's a suicide mission into the lion's den," Finn warned.

"Not if the lion doesn't know we're coming through the roof," I replied, looking at Mara.

"We leave in one hour," she said.
