Chapter 6 - The Maid Who Stole a Dynasty's Heir

By midnight, the third floor of the Moretti estate—the master suite—had been converted into a fortified safe room.
The windows were shuttered with three-inch ballistic steel plates. Two heavily armed private security operatives in tactical gear stood guard outside the reinforced double doors.
Inside the suite, Leo was sleeping peacefully in the center of the massive king-sized bed, surrounded by soft down pillows, his tiny chest rising and falling in rhythmic innocence.
Sitting on the edge of the bed, wearing a warm cashmere sweater I had given her, was Elena.
I walked into the room carrying a silver tray with two cups of hot chamomile tea. I set the tray on the bedside table, handed her a porcelain cup, and sat in the armchair beside the bed.
“Drink,” I said gently. “You’re shaking.”
Elena took the cup with both hands, sipping the warm tea, her eyes never leaving the sleeping baby.
“Mr. Moretti…” she whispered. “What is going to happen tonight?”
“Tonight, I am going to end the Rossi bloodline forever,” I replied, my voice steady, cold, and absolute. “No one will ever threaten you or my son again.”
Elena looked up at me, her hazel eyes glistening with unshed tears. “For two years, I watched you from across the courtyard. Every morning at six, you would walk to the garden, stare at the memorial fountain dedicated to Mateo, and stand there in the rain for an hour without an umbrella.”
She wiped a tear from her cheek.
“Every single day, my heart broke for you. A hundred times, I wanted to run up to you, place Leo in your arms, and tell you the truth. But every time I saw the men with guns, the black armored cars, the violence of your world… I was terrified that bringing Mateo into the light would get him killed.”
I reached out, gently resting my hand over hers.
“You don't need to apologize for protecting my son, Elena,” I said softly. “You gave up your career, your identity, and your youth to keep him safe. Most women would have abandoned a mafia Don’s child to save their own skin. You chose to walk into the lion’s den to keep him close to his father.”
Elena looked into my eyes, seeing the profound, raw vulnerability beneath the feared syndicate boss.
“He loves you, Dante,” she whispered softly, using my first name for the first time. “Even before he crawled into your office tonight… whenever you walked past the kitchen windows, he would point his little finger at the glass and laugh.”
A faint, genuine smile touched my lips—the first real smile I had felt in three long years.
“He knew his father,” I whispered.
The encrypted radio on my tactical belt suddenly crackled to life with Dominic’s tense voice:
“Boss. Perimeter motion sensors on the North Gate just tripped. Thermal imaging shows five black SUVs cutting their headlights three hundred yards down the private road. The Rossi strike team is on site.”
I set my tea cup down, stood up, and pulled a tactical combat vest over my shoulders, snapping the heavy polymer buckles into place.
I turned to Elena, pulling a compact, loaded Glock 43 from my holster and placing it gently into her hands.
“Lock the steel door behind me,” I instructed her, looking deep into her eyes. “If anyone other than me or Dominic touches that handle… shoot through the wood.”
Elena nodded, her grip on the small handgun firm and resolute. “Be safe, Dante. Bring our family through this.”
May you like
“I will,” I promised.
I kissed my sleeping son’s forehead, checked the magazine on my Kimber .45, and walked out into the corridor to meet the storm.
