Chapter 14 - The Wedding of the Century in Tuscany

One year later.

The rolling, sun-drenched hills of Florence, Italy, were cloaked in the golden warmth of late summer.

The historic, sixteenth-century Villa Moretti—our ancestral family estate nestled among ancient olive groves and vineyards—was adorned with cascading white hydrangeas, fragrant lavender, and crystal chandeliers suspended from ancient stone arches.

Over two hundred of our closest friends, maritime executives, and reformed syndicate leaders had flown in from across the globe to witness our union.

Dominic stood beside me as my best man, his massive frame looking surprisingly dashing in a tailored Italian tuxedo, a broad, proud grin on his face.

The string quartet began playing the soaring, romantic notes of Ennio Morricone’s Gabriel's Oboe.

The heavy wrought-iron garden gates swung open.

Walking down the petal-strewn aisle, looking like an angel descended from heaven, was Elena.

She wore a bespoke, hand-embroidered Italian lace gown that flowed like morning mist behind her.

And walking proudly beside her, holding her hand with absolute, focused concentration, was two-and-a-half-year-old Mateo. He wore a sharp miniature tuxedo, carrying the velvet ring pillow with supreme, toddler dignity.

When Elena reached the altar, I took her hands into mine.

Her hazel eyes were shining with pure, radiant love.

“Dante,” Elena whispered, her voice clear and resonant beneath the Tuscan sky:

“You taught me that true strength is gentle. You took a frightened nurse and gave her a fortress of love, respect, and devotion. You are my protector, my best friend, and the greatest father in the world. I promise to cherish your heart, to stand beside you in every calm and every tempest, and to love you with everything I am for all the days of my life.”

Tears of pure, unbridled joy spilled down my cheeks.

“Elena,” I replied, looking into her soul. “You were the light that found me in the darkest abyss. You brought my son home, and in doing so, you gave me back my humanity. I give you my loyalty, my life, my heart, and my forever.”

The Italian priest smiled with deep warmth. “Vi dichiaro marito e moglie. Puoi baciare la sposa!”

I wrapped my arms around Elena’s waist, pulling her close, and kissed my bride deeply as the two hundred guests erupted into roaring, joyful cheers that echoed across the Tuscan hills.

Mateo jumped up and down between us, hugging our legs, laughing joyfully: “Mommy! Daddy! We did it!”

I scooped my son into my left arm, wrapped my right arm around my gorgeous wife, and together we turned to face our guests, basking in the glorious, unbreakable dawn of our family.
