Chapter 25 - The Empire of LightThe silence in the desert was absolute. As the state operatives dragged the ruined heir into the back of a heavily armored transport, the remaining mercenaries stared at me in profound, awe-struck terror.

I didn't gloat. I simply looked at David.

He walked over to me, wrapping his strong, heavy arms around my waist. He pulled me flush against his solid chest, burying his face in the crook of my neck, inhaling deeply.

"Elias just confirmed," David murmured, his deep voice a comforting rumble against my skin. "The primary cooling valves are locked. The core temperature has stabilized. The royal family is transferring the final payment into our domestic accounts. It’s done, Sarah. There are no more shadows."

"There will always be someone who thinks they can take what we have built," I said softly, leaning back into his solid embrace, the cold desert wind whipping around us.

"Let them try," David smiled, a rogue, brilliant expression touching his lips. He reached out, gently stroking my cheek. "They will find an impenetrable fortress, and a queen who never misses."

By sunrise, we were back on the glass-bottomed observation deck of the central spire.

The global media had shifted their narrative overnight. The blackout was explained as a scheduled, hyper-advanced stress test of the city’s quantum grid—a test that The Oasis had passed with absolute perfection. Malachi Thorne was erased from the narrative entirely, locked in a subterranean black site where he would never see the sun again.

I stood on the deck, wearing a fresh, flowing white silk dress, watching the morning sun break over the horizon.

Below us, The Oasis came alive. The glittering matrix of sustainable light flared to life, a breathtaking ocean of glass, steel, and brilliance stretching across the desert. It was the most beautiful, complex piece of engineering the world had ever seen.

David walked up behind me, wrapping his arms around my shoulders.

I thought about the long, bloody road that had brought me to this exact moment. I thought about Marcus, Richard, Volkov, Julian, Vivianne, and Malachi. They had all looked at me and seen a soft, vulnerable target. They had seen a woman they could break, control, or consume.

They were all rotting in concrete cells, completely destroyed by the very woman they dared to underestimate.

I reached up, lacing my fingers through David’s dark hair, and leaned back against his chest.

"We built it, David," I whispered, tears of profound, unshakeable joy pricking my eyes. "We finally finished the masterpiece."

"And it belongs entirely to us," David promised, leaning down to capture my lips in a deep, passionate, completely intoxicating kiss that sealed our history and ignited our limitless future.

The ordinary, terrified wife who had nearly drowned in the past was a ghost, buried permanently under a mountain of steel, glass, and absolute resilience. The queen had not just taken her throne; she had forged a sovereign empire that no man, no ghost, and no monster could ever tear down.

I was Sarah. I was victorious. I was loved.

And this beautiful, brilliant empire of light was going to last forever.
