Chapter 11 - The Freezing of the Swiss Accounts and the Fall of the Matriarch

By Wednesday morning, forty-eight hours after I placed those three DNA reports on the table, the Salgado family dynasty had completely collapsed.

Theresa Salgado was formally arraigned in Dallas County District Court on charges of Grand Larceny, Wire Fraud, Tampering with Government Documents, and Reckless Endangerment.

Because of the overwhelming digital evidence provided by Marisol’s secret recordings, the judge set Theresa’s bail at five million dollars—cash only.

With all her domestic and offshore accounts frozen by Gabriel’s legal injunctions, the great society queen couldn't raise even fifty dollars. She was escorted in orange prison scrubs and plastic slippers to a holding cell in the Lew Sterrett Justice Center.

Her high-society friends, the women who had shared her VIP tables at the Dallas Symphony and the Cattle Baron's Ball, immediately canceled their memberships and scrubbed every photo of Theresa from their charity websites.

Meanwhile, Alex sat alone in a cheap, rented motel room on the edge of Fort Worth.

His Aston Martin had been repossessed by the leasing bank. His corporate credit cards had been cut into ribbons. The gates to the Highland Park estate were locked against him, guarded by Marcus’s security team.

He turned on the television to see news anchors breaking down the scandal in graphic detail:

“The fall of one of Texas’s most prominent real estate families serves as a stark reminder of the power of Don Mateo Salgado’s ironclad trust. Valerie Hernandez, now recognized as one of the most powerful trustees in Dallas, has announced a complete restructuring of the company, focusing on ethical housing developments and child advocacy programs.”

Alex threw his empty beer bottle at the screen, burying his face in his hands as he realized he had lost his fortune, his status, his family, and his future—all because he thought he could treat a good woman like disposable property.
