Chapter 3 - The Lawyer's Warning & The Eviction Notice

At 7:30 a.m., the morning sun broke over the skyline as I walked into the high-rise downtown office of Victoria Ramos, the fiercest family and asset-protection attorney in the state.
Victoria was a woman in her late fifties with sharp gray eyes, tailored charcoal suits, and a reputation for dismantling corrupt spouses in court. She had been a dear friend of my late Aunt Clara, and when I laid the heavy red folder onto her mahogany desk, her eyes narrowed with fierce determination.
“Elena, my dear,” Victoria said, pouring me a cup of steaming herbal tea. “Aunt Clara would be proud of you for walking out. Now, let’s make sure Daniel Vance never takes another breath near your peace of mind or your wealth.”
For the next two hours, Victoria combed through every single document inside the red folder.
She reviewed the medical reports from the urgent care clinic where I had quietly documented the fractures, sprains, and bruises over the years. She examined the bank records proving that my $1.2 million inheritance had directly funded Daniel's company, Vance Strategic Solutions, giving me 65% legal equity. And she scrutinized the forged loan applications where Daniel had clumsily faked my signature to secure short-term predatory loans.
“This isn’t just a divorce, Elena,” Victoria declared, snapping the folder shut with an echoing thud. “This is a total criminal and civil annihilation. Daniel has committed domestic battery, identity theft, grand larceny, and bank fraud.”
“What about Lorraine?” I asked. “She’s still inside my home, claiming she has squatters’ rights because Daniel invited her.”
Victoria offered a razor-sharp smile. “Lorraine is about to learn a very painful lesson about property law. You are the sole titleholder. Daniel was a permissive occupant whose domestic violence automatically nullifies any implied spousal tenancy under our state’s emergency protection statutes. Lorraine has zero legal standing. She is nothing more than an unlawful trespasser.”
Victoria picked up her desk phone and dialed the county clerk’s emergency docket.
“Judge Harrison? This is Victoria Ramos. I have an emergency ex-parte petition for a temporary restraining order, an asset freeze, and an immediate writ of possession for Mrs. Elena Vance.”
Within ninety minutes, the paperwork was stamped, sealed, and signed by the presiding superior court judge.
The court order granted me full, exclusive possession of the Oakridge Terrace estate, froze all joint and corporate bank accounts linked to Daniel Vance, and issued a strict 500-foot protective order prohibiting Daniel and Lorraine from contacting me or approaching my vicinity.
“The sheriff’s department is dispatched to enforce the writ at noon today,” Victoria told me, handing me the certified court order. “Daniel posted temporary bail two hours ago through a shady bondsman, so he’s likely back at the house right now, scrambling to pack his belongings.”
“I want to be there when they get kicked out,” I said firmly.
Victoria placed a reassuring hand on my shoulder. “You have every right to witness your freedom, Elena. But you will stay inside my car with my security team while the deputies clear the house. Let the law do the heavy lifting.”

I looked at the judge's signature on the crisp white paper. For six years, Daniel had convinced me that without him, I was nothing. He had told me I was weak, helpless, and incapable of surviving on my own.
Today, he was going to find out who really held the power.
