Chapter 12 - The Ledger That Burned an Empire: Destroying the Rival Cartel With a Keystroke

Before Vance could pull the trigger, the reinforced skylights of the warehouse shattered into thousands of cascading pieces.

Flashbang grenades detonated with blinding light and deafening roars. A dozen heavily armed black-ops operators rappelled down steel cables from the ceiling, their thermal scopes illuminating the dark.

In the chaos, Larkin used the hidden ceramic blade I had slipped into his sleeve during the car crash. He sliced through his zip-ties in a second, lunged forward, and tackled Marcus to the ground, snapping the traitor’s neck with a brutal, sickening crack.

Vance stumbled backward, blinded by the flashbangs, wildly firing his revolver into the smoke.

I slipped my hands free, vaulted over my chair, and scooped up Marcus’s dropped assault rifle.

"Vance!" I screamed through the thunder of gunfire.

The man who murdered my father spun around, his eyes wide with horror as he stared down the barrel of my gun.

"This is the final audit," I said.

I pulled the trigger. Three rounds struck Vance in the chest, ending the ten-year nightmare that had haunted my family.

Across the room, Castiglione tried to crawl toward an escape boat moored to the dock, but Larkin was already there. Larkin grabbed the aging Don by the throat, hoisting him off his feet and dangling him over the churning, icy black waters of the East River.

"No, please!" Castiglione choked out. "I’ll give you everything! The billions in Zurich! The port!"

Larkin looked over his shoulder at me. "Penelope. Does he have anything left we need?"

I tapped a final command on my phone, watching Castiglione’s entire fortune siphon into an unrecoverable ghost account. "His balance sheet is zero."

"Then his life is over," Larkin said, and dropped Castiglione into the dark abyss.
