Chapter 10 - The Alliance with Aunt Claire and the Hidden Bank Accounts in Delaware

As the flashing red and blue lights of the State Police cruisers faded down Old Mill Road, the sprawling Greenwich mansion fell into a profound, echoing silence.
Ethan stood in the center of the living room. The air felt cleaner, as if a toxic cloud that had hovered over the house for ten months had finally dissipated into the autumn night.
Clara walked into the kitchen, carrying two steaming mugs of black coffee. She set one down in front of Ethan at the island.
"Lily is sound asleep at my apartment in Stamford," Clara said softly, sitting on the barstool opposite him. "Dr. Bennett checked her vitals again twenty minutes ago. The unadulterated juice and the clean fluids are flushing out whatever residual traces of the atropine were in her system. She’s going to make a full, complete physical recovery, Ethan. No organ damage, no lasting toxicity."
Ethan let out a long, shuddering breath, pressing his palms against his eyes. The adrenaline that had sustained him for the last fourteen hours was beginning to ebb away, leaving a deep, crushing exhaustion in its wake.
"I almost let them kill her, Clara," Ethan whispered, his voice cracking with the heavy burden of guilt. "If I had gotten on that plane to Boston... if Lily hadn't gathered the courage to whisper to me in the foyer... she would be locked in an asylum right now, and I’d be dead in six months."
"Stop that right now, Ethan," Clara said firmly, reaching across the marble counter and gripping his wrist with fierce family loyalty. "You listened to your daughter. The second she told you something was wrong, you didn't brush it off as a child's imagination. You canceled your life, you brought in the best team in the country, and you protected her. Grace is looking down on you right now, and she is proud."
Ethan nodded slowly, looking out the kitchen window toward the dark garden. "We still have to clean up the legal battlefield. What did the federal agents find on Vance’s laptop?"
Clara pulled out her iPad, opening the secure file transfer sent by Agent Harris’s team.
"It’s extensive," Clara said, scrolling through the decrypted financial logs. "Rachel and Jason weren't working alone. They had established a network of corrupt probate contacts, shell holding companies in Delaware, and an offshore asset shelter in Grand Cayman called Newport Horizon Holdings Ltd."
"How much of our capital did she touch?" Ethan asked, his executive instincts kicking back in.
"She managed to siphon approximately four hundred and fifty thousand dollars from your personal liquid operating accounts over the last six months under the guise of 'interior design renovations' and 'Lily’s private medical consults,'" Clara explained. "However, because Harris executed the federal emergency asset freeze tonight, every single penny has been locked in the clearing banks. The federal government is filing an immediate forfeiture and restitution motion. You and Lily will recover one hundred percent of the stolen funds."
"And the Newport trust?"
"Untouched," Clara said with a triumphant smile. "The forged Power of Attorney was intercepted before it was ever officially recorded with the Rhode Island Department of State. I’ve already drafted an emergency amendment to the trust governance: I will serve as secondary co-trustee alongside you, and we are instituting a triple-lock forensic audit requirement for any future disbursements. No one can ever challenge Lily’s inheritance again."
Ethan looked at the digital files on the screen—the blueprints of their lives that had almost been burned to the ground.
"I don't want to stay in this house, Clara," Ethan said quietly. "Every hallway, every room... it’s poisoned with Rachel’s lies. Lily shouldn't have to grow up in the place where she was being drugged."
"Then let’s leave," Clara said simply. "Pack up the essentials, take Lily, and go where you both belong."

Ethan looked at her, the first genuine smile in months touching his lips. "Newport."
"Newport," Clara agreed. "The ocean house has been waiting for her."
