Chapter 10 - BULLETS AND BANDAGES

Pier 54 loomed out of the freezing river fog like a skeletal beast.

Rusted shipping containers towered into the black night.

Harland’s convoy of three black SUVs stopped fifty yards from the main warehouse.

“When we breach the doors, stay behind me,” Harland instructed, handing Ru a heavy tactical vest.

“I know how this works,” Ru strapped the vest over her sweater.

“Just don't get shot.”

The heavy steel doors of the warehouse blew inward with a deafening explosion.

Flashes of automatic gunfire lit up the cavernous interior like summer lightning.

Harland’s men charged in, returning fire with ruthless precision.

Ru stayed low, ducking behind a stack of wooden crates alongside one of Harland’s wounded guards.

“Hold still,” Ru ordered the man, pressing a field bandage against his bleeding thigh.

“You’re going to be fine.”

“Thanks, Miss Callaway,” the guard grunted through clenched teeth.

Across the warehouse, Victor Vance stood on an elevated metal catwalk, holding a submachine gun.

“Vance!” Harland’s voice thundered above the gunfire.

“Your game is over!”

Vance laughed maliciously, aiming his weapon directly down at Harland.

Before Vance could pull the trigger, a sniper shot from Harland’s lieutenant shattered the railing beside Vance’s head.

Vance stumbled backward, dropping his weapon.

He turned and bolted toward the rear exit stairs.

Harland sprinted after him like a hunting hound.
