Chapter 7 - An Unforgivable Threat: The Loan Sharks Make A Deadly Mistake

The moment Lorenzo stepped into the room, the oxygen seemed to vanish.
He wasn't wearing his suit today. He wore a dark tactical turtleneck beneath a heavy charcoal coat, radiating an aura of raw, unbridled violence that made even the ruthless Victor Drake soil himself in terror.
Lorenzo didn't look at the men pinned to the floor. He walked straight over to me, kneeling down on one knee so we were at eye level.
"Emily," he said, his voice soft, checking my arms and shoulders. "Did they touch you?"
"N-no," I whimpered, trembling against his arm. "He... he broke the table and said he was going to burn our house down with Noah inside."
Lorenzo’s hazel eyes turned pitch black. A cold, terrifying calm settled over his features. He reached out, gently brushed a stray hair from my forehead, and said, "Go into the back room with your mother and Noah. Put on your headphones. Sissy, don't look back."
Mom quickly grabbed my hand and pulled me into the bedroom, slamming the door shut. I held Noah tightly against my chest, slipping large noise-canceling headphones over his ears, but I couldn't stop myself from pressing my ear against the bedroom door.
In the living room, Lorenzo’s voice was barely louder than a whisper, but it carried the weight of an executioner's blade.
"Victor Drake," Lorenzo said smoothly, lighting a cigarette with his gold lighter. "You run petty rackets on the west side. You charge seventy percent interest to widows. And today, you walked into my property and threatened to burn a family under my personal blood oath."
"M-Mr. Moretti!" Victor squealed, his voice cracking into high-pitched hysteria as his face was crushed into the floor. "I didn't know! I swear on my mother's grave, I didn't know the Carters were with you! If I knew David Carter was your man, I would never have stepped foot on this block!"
"David Carter gave his life for my father," Lorenzo said coldly, blowing a thin plume of smoke toward the ceiling. "His children are my children. His family is my family. You didn't just trespass on a rental property, Victor. You declared war on the Moretti name."
"Please! I'll give them the money! I'll pay fifty grand to Sarah! Just let me walk out of here!" Victor wept openly, the terrifying loan shark reduced to a begging dog.
"You won't be walking anywhere," Lorenzo replied with absolute finality. "Marco. Take these three to the docks near warehouse four. Strip every asset Victor owns in this state—his properties, his bank accounts, his businesses—and transfer the legal titles to a trust fund under Emily and Noah Carter’s names. Once the paperwork is signed... make sure Victor Drake never sees another Michigan sunrise."
"Understood, Boss," Marco replied crisply.
A muffled scream followed as Victor and his men were gagged, bound with heavy zip-ties, and dragged out the back door into waiting black vans.
Five minutes later, the bedroom door gently opened.

Lorenzo stood there, his coat spotless, his expression completely composed. He looked at Mom, whose face was stained with tears.
"Sarah," Lorenzo said, extending his hand. "Pack your bags. This neighborhood is no longer secure. You and the children are coming to live in the Moretti Compound in Grosse Pointe. Pack only your sentimental items. Everything else has already been bought."
