Chapter 11 - Federal Warrants, Midnight Raids, and the Collapse of Dominic’s Pride

At 6:00 AM on Monday morning, Dominic Marlowe was sleeping on a threadbare sofa in a cheap motel off Route 1 in New Jersey.
He had spent his last four hundred dollars in cash on three bottles of cheap scotch, drinking himself into a stupor while staring at television reports of Elena’s soaring corporate success.
The loud, violent sound of wood splintering shattered his sleep.
"FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP TO THE FLOOR! HANDS WHERE WE CAN SEE THEM!"
Before Dominic could even sit up, four armed federal agents in tactical vests swarmed the small motel room, pinning him face-down onto the dirty carpet.
Cold steel handcuffs snapped around his wrists with brutal finality.
"What is this?!" Dominic screamed, his face pressed against the floorboards. "I'm Dominic Marlowe! This is a mistake!"
Special Agent Miller of the Federal Bureau of Investigation stepped into the room, holding up a certified arrest warrant.
"Dominic Marlowe, you are under arrest for federal wire fraud, money laundering, grand larceny, and corporate embezzlement under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act."
"No! No!" Dominic wept, struggling against the iron grip of the agents as they hauled him to his feet. "My wife did this! She framed me! Elena Bennett is behind this!"
"Your wife didn't authorize fourteen million dollars in fraudulent wire transfers to offshore accounts in the British Virgin Islands, Mr. Marlowe," the agent replied coldly. "You did. And your mistress’s brother, Tyler Cross, signed a full confession at two o'clock this morning in exchange for a plea deal."
Dominic’s knees gave out completely.
Tyler had flipped.
As the agents dragged Dominic out of the motel into the cold morning air, a dozen news vans were already waiting in the parking lot. Flashbulbs exploded in the predawn darkness, capturing the image of Manhattan’s once-glamorous corporate golden boy being shoved into the back of an FBI cruiser in handcuffs, wearing a dirty undershirt and sweatpants.
