Chapter 10 - Elena Takes the Throne and Rewrites the Rules of Manhattan Commerce

At Bennett Tower, the executive floor was alive with a vibrant, electric energy that had been missing for years.
Elena Bennett sat at the center of the grand mahogany desk in the corner office—the very office where Dominic had sat for seven years taking credit for her intellect.
On her desk sat two dozen red roses sent by the Port Authority Union leaders, alongside congratulatory telegrams from maritime directors in Rotterdam, Singapore, and London.
Marcus Cole walked into the office, carrying a tablet. "The morning transition is complete, Ms. Bennett. Julian Sterling’s hedge fund has officially surrendered their creditor rights, and the union representatives just ratified the new five-year profit-sharing agreement."
Elena smiled, looking out over the panoramic view of the Hudson River where three massive Bennett container ships were docking in perfect synchronized harmony.
"And the dockworkers?" Elena asked.
"They're thrilled," Marcus replied with a genuine smile. "When they heard you personally reinstated the night-shift safety bonuses Dominic had eliminated, the union shop steward declared you an honorary dockmaster."
Elena let out a quiet, satisfied breath.
For seven years, she had been told that to run a global corporation, one had to be ruthless, detached, and cruel. Dominic had spent seven years treating human beings like numbers on a spreadsheet while he basked in unearned glory.
She had proven that true brilliance came from understanding the machine from the inside out—and respecting the people who kept the gears turning.
Her father, Harold, walked into the office carrying two cups of hot black coffee. He set one in front of Elena and sat down in the visitor’s chair with a look of profound, radiant pride.
"You did it, Ellie," Harold said softly. "The board voted unanimously thirty minutes ago. You are officially Chairman and Chief Executive Officer."
Elena looked at her father, her eyes warm. "We did it together, Dad."
"No," Harold corrected her gently, shaking his head. "You did this. You built this software. You protected our people. You took the blow, you absorbed the pain, and you turned it into pure steel."
Elena picked up her coffee cup and toasted her father.

"Now," Harold said, his eyes twinkling with a touch of mischief, "what about the cleanup on the Marlowe mess?"
Elena set her cup down, her smile turning razor-sharp. "The federal prosecutors have already finished reviewing the offshore logs. It's time for Dominic to face the law."
