Chapter 10 - The Secret Recording in the Penthouse

At 6:30 PM, Madison Cole was temporarily released on a restricted $2 million bond secured by her mother’s properties, fitted with an active GPS ankle monitor, and ordered to remain inside the Tribeca penthouse until her formal arraignment.

She sat in the luxurious living room, surrounded by half-packed designer luggage, drinking vodka straight from the bottle. The penthouse was silent, stripped of the servants and security guards who had fled the moment the federal indictments became public knowledge.

The elevator doors chimed and opened directly into the penthouse foyer.

Madison jumped up, grabbing a heavy crystal vase as a weapon. “Who’s there?!”

I walked out of the elevator, alone, wearing an elegant black cashmere coat. I carried no weapons, no security escort—only the quiet, devastating poise of absolute victory.

Madison stared at me, her face twisting into a hideous sneer of drunken hatred. “You... You think you’ve won, don't you? You think because your billionaire daddy bailed you out, you’re better than me?!”

“I never needed my father to be better than you, Madison,” I said calmly, walking over to the marble fireplace and looking at the framed photographs of Ryan and Madison that had replaced my family pictures. “You built your entire life on stealing what other women created. You did it in Chicago to Sarah Miller, and you tried to do it to me.”

At the mention of Sarah Miller, Madison’s eyes flashed with genuine panic. “Sarah Miller was weak! She killed herself because she couldn't handle the pressure! It had nothing to do with me!”

“You stole $14 million from her family, Madison. You engineered her arrest, seduced her husband, and drove her to end her life so you could take her home.” I looked her dead in the eye. “Did you really think you could do the exact same thing twice and never pay for it?”

Madison let out a shrill, hysterical laugh. “I’m Donald Cole’s daughter! My lawyers will drag this trial out for ten years! Ryan will take the fall for Harrington—I already gave the feds all the encryption keys! In two years, I’ll be sitting on a yacht in Monaco while Ryan rots in a cage!”

I reached into my coat pocket and pulled out a small, sleek digital audio transmitter, its blue LED pulsing steadily.

“Thank you, Madison,” I said softly. “The United States Attorney’s Office was listening to every single word of that on the live federal frequency. Your plea agreement for cooperation has just been officially voided.”

Madison’s jaw dropped in horror. She lunged toward me, screaming: “You b—!”

Before she could take two steps, the elevator doors opened again, and four armed FBI agents stepped into the penthouse, guns drawn.

“Madison Cole,” the lead agent barked. “Your bail has been revoked by federal court order due to witness tampering and flight risk. Hands behind your back!”

As the agents pinned Madison against the marble floor and cuffed her wrists, she thrashed and shrieked like a wild animal, cursing my name until her voice broke.

I turned and stepped into the elevator, leaving the wreckage of her stolen life behind forever.
