Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Castle

Two weeks later.
The first winter snow had fallen over the Hudson Valley, covering the twelve acres of the Moretti estate in a pristine, glittering blanket of pure white.
The iron gates had been reinforced, security patrols doubled, and Marco Vane's surviving syndicate dismantled down to its absolute roots. The underworld had received its final, terrifying lesson: Don Alessandro Moretti was no longer just a Boss protecting territory; he was a husband and father who would burn the world to keep his family safe.
Inside the grand living room of the manor house, a massive stone fireplace crackled with warm, orange flames.
A giant fifteen-foot Christmas tree stood in the corner, decorated with gold ribbons, glass ornaments, and hundreds of twinkling white lights.
Rosa sat on a plush velvet sofa, wearing a warm cream sweater and leggings, holding a mug of hot cocoa. Her lip had healed completely, leaving no trace of the ambush, her face soft and radiant in the firelight.
On the rug in front of the hearth, Alessandro lay on his stomach, his dark hair messy, wearing a casual grey sweatshirt, playing with a massive wooden dollhouse he had built by hand over the past week.
Lily sat beside him, wearing duck pajamas, carefully placing tiny furniture into the wooden rooms.
"And this," Lily announced proudly, holding up a tiny gold painted button, "is the magic sun button! It goes on top of the roof so the house never gets dark!"
Alessandro let out a deep, warm laugh, taking the tiny button and carefully gluing it onto the peak of the wooden dollhouse roof.
"A perfect addition, Princess," Alessandro smiled, stroking her dark hair.
Mr. Bruno stepped into the room, carrying a silver tray with a plate of fresh gingerbread cookies. He set them down on the coffee table, smiling warmly down at the family.
"Will there be anything else tonight, Don Alessandro? Mrs. Moretti?" the old butler asked respectfully.
Rosa looked up at Mr. Bruno, offering him a warm, affectionate smile. "No, thank you, Bruno. Please go rest. It's late."
"Thank you, Madam," Bruno bowed gently, turning to leave.
"Oh, Bruno?" Alessandro called out quietly from the floor.
The butler stopped near the doorway. "Yes, Boss?"
"Thank you," Alessandro said, his dark eyes meeting the old man's with deep, sincere gratitude. "For four years... thank you for keeping them safe when I was too blind to see."
Mr. Bruno’s eyes swelled with soft tears. He bowed his head deeply. "It was the greatest honor of my life, Don Alessandro."
When the butler closed the heavy wooden doors, quiet descended over the warm, firelit room.
Lily let out a long, sleepy yawn, her small head drooping onto Alessandro’s broad shoulder, her eyes fluttering shut as she clutched Bun in her sleep.
Alessandro carefully lifted his five-year-old daughter into his arms, carrying her over to the sofa and laying her down gently beside Rosa. He pulled a soft cashmere blanket over her shoulders, kissing her cheek.
He sat down beside Rosa, pulling her close into his side.
Rosa rested her head against his shoulder, lacing her fingers through his, looking down at their sleeping daughter, then at the glowing Christmas tree.
"Four years ago," Rosa whispered softly, her thumb tracing the golden wedding band on his finger, "I was terrified every time I walked past your study. I thought you were a cold, dangerous man who would destroy us if you ever found out."
Alessandro turned his head, pressing a lingering, gentle kiss against her temple, smelling the warm lavender in her hair.
"I was a cold, dangerous man, Rosa," Alessandro confessed quietly into the stillness of the room. "I was lost in the dark until a little girl dropped a gold button at my feet, and her mother taught me how to live again."
Rosa looked up into his dark, beautiful eyes—the eyes that now carried only love, devotion, and an eternal promise of protection.

She leaned up, pressing her lips gently against his.
Outside the grand windows, the quiet snow continued to fall softly over the Hudson River, but inside the Moretti castle, the warmth would last forever.
