Chapter 11 - Unleashing the Beast: Julian Vance Burns the City to Find His New Family

Within ten minutes, Julian Vance unleashed the full, terrifying might of his empire.
No more games. No more backroom diplomacy.
Fifty black SUVs rolled out of the Vance compounds, cutting through the rainy night like a swarm of hornets. Satellite surveillance was re-routed over the harbor; every dock, every shipping container, and every corrupt official in Sable’s pocket was seized in a coordinated blitzkrieg.
Sitting in the passenger seat of Julian’s custom armored vehicle, Leah clutched Matteo's spare medication bottle in her trembling hands. She had stripped off the diamond necklace and high heels, wearing Julian’s heavy tactical coat over her dress.
"Why is he doing this?" she asked, her voice cracking. "Matteo is just an innocent child."
"Sable is a coward," Julian replied, his hands gripping the steering wheel so hard the leather groaned. "He knows he cannot defeat me face-to-face. So he attacks what he thinks is my weakness."
Julian glanced sideways at Leah, his expression softening for a fraction of a second.
"He thinks you and the boy are my vulnerability," Julian murmured. "He doesn't realize you are my reason to destroy everything in my path."
Leah’s breath caught in her throat. Even amidst the terror and adrenaline, the gravity of his words wrapped around her heart like an unbreakable vow.
The radio crackled. "Pier 42 located, boss. Abandoned dry dock warehouse. Infrared shows eight armed hostiles inside. Sable is holding the boy on the upper catwalk."
Julian racked the slide of his custom matte-black pistol, clicking the safety off.
"Do not engage until I enter," Julian ordered into his headset. "This kill belongs to me."

He pulled the SUV to a halt in the shadows behind the rusting cranes of the harbor. Rain poured down in violent sheets, the ocean waves crashing against the pier.
"Stay behind me, Leah," Julian said, his eyes blazing in the dark. "Whatever happens... keep your eyes on the boy."
