Chapter 14 - Rebuilding from the Ashes

Six months later.
The city of Boston was changing, and so was the Salvatore organization.
True to his word, Dominic had begun systematically dismantling the illicit enterprises of his family’s empire, transitioning hundreds of millions of dollars into legitimate commercial real estate, green energy ports, and community medical foundations. The "Salvatore Children's Cardiac Foundation" had already funded life-saving surgeries for over two hundred low-income children across the state.
Chloe had transformed completely.
Her cheeks were rosy, her energy boundless. She could run, jump, and play soccer in the park without coughing or losing her breath.
On a warm Saturday afternoon, Rosie’s Diner held its grand reopening.
The old, rundown building had been completely restored into a stunning, vintage-modern landmark with polished cherrywood counters, sparkling chrome accents, and state-of-the-art kitchen equipment. Rosie remained the proud owner, but now she owned the entire commercial lot free and clear, funded by an anonymous endowment.
Chloe was sitting at the counter, happily swinging her legs while eating a giant bowl of strawberry ice cream.
"Mommy, look!" Chloe pointed at the door. "Prince Dominic is here!"
Dominic walked through the front door of the diner.
He wasn't flanked by four armed guards. He wasn't carrying the dark, menacing aura of a hunted crime boss. He wore a simple tailored navy blazer, an open-collared white shirt, and a warm, genuine smile that lit up the entire room.
"Afternoon, little bird," Dominic said, leaning down to kiss Chloe’s forehead before turning to me.
I stood behind the counter, wearing an apron over a simple summer dress, laughing as I poured a cup of fresh coffee.

"Table for one, Mr. Salvatore?" I asked playfully.
"Actually," Dominic said, his obsidian eyes softening with infinite tenderness, "table for three. For the rest of our lives."
