Chapter 12 - The Glass Room|

“NO! DANTE, PLEASE!” Isabella screamed as two armed operatives grabbed her arms, pinning her against the wall.
Gunshots echoed behind Dante as he walked toward the floor-to-ceiling glass window overlooking the glittering lights of Manhattan. He did not turn around when Carmine Russo’s heavy body hit the floor.
When the room fell quiet again, Dante turned back to face his terrified fiancée.
She was sobbing hysterically, her emerald gown stained with ash and dust from the floor.
“What are you going to do to me?” she wept, looking up at him with wild, pleading eyes. “Are you going to kill me, Dante? Like you killed my father?”
Dante walked slowly toward her, stopping inches away. He reached out and gently brushed a strand of dark hair away from her tear-streaked face. His touch was terrifyingly soft.
“No, Isabella,” Dante said smoothly. “Death is an easy exit. And I am not a cruel man.”
She blinked through her tears, a flicker of desperate hope appearing in her eyes. “You’re... you’re letting me go?”
“I am sending you back to Italy,” Dante corrected softly. “To a small, isolated convent in the mountains of Calabria. You will remain there for the rest of your life under the constant supervision of my mother’s family. You will have no phone, no money, and no visitors.”
Isabella’s face drained of color until she looked like a corpse.
“No... please! Shoot me! Don't send me there!” she shrieked, kicking wildly as the guards began dragging her toward the private service elevator. “DANTE!”
Dante adjusted his cuffs, his gray eyes completely hollow.
“Take her away,” he commanded.
As the elevator doors closed on her frantic screams, Mateo walked up beside Dante, handing him a clean linen handkerchief.
“The bank vice president has signed a full confession regarding the illegal land transfers, Boss,” Mateo reported. “And the Russo family Capos have already been notified that Don Carmine died of a sudden heart failure tonight.”
Dante wiped a fleck of dust from his sleeve and tossed the handkerchief onto the floor.
“There is still one detail unfinished,” Dante said coldly.

Mateo frowned slightly. “Unfinished, Boss? We cleared the Russo syndicate.”
Dante turned his gaze toward the door. “Isabella didn't know where the hidden stud under my desk was located, Mateo. Someone inside my house showed her.”
