Chapter 10

The penthouse at the top of the Vance Tower overlooked the glittering expanse of Central Park.
Rain beat heavily against the floor-to-ceiling glass walls.
Inside, Julian Vance poured a glass of twenty-year Scotch, swirling the amber liquid lazily.
His phone buzzed on the marble bar.
He answered with an air of absolute boredom.
“Tell me the safehouse is cleared,” Julian said.
“Sir, we hit the target, but they escaped,” a panicked voice reported over the encrypted line. “Dante and the girl... they took the ledger.”
Julian’s hand tightened around the crystal glass until his knuckles turned white.
“Incompetent fools,” Julian snarled. “Find them. Tear the city apart block by block if you have to.”
He ended the call and tossed the phone onto the bar.
Before he could take another sip of his drink, the penthouse elevator bell chimed softly.
Ding.
Julian froze.
Elevator access to the penthouse required a biometric retinal scan and a six-digit master code known only to Julian and Dante.
The elevator doors slid open smoothly.
Dante Vance stepped out first, his charcoal suit immaculate despite the night’s chaos.
Behind him stood Salvatore and Emma Parker, holding her laptop bag like a tactical briefcase.
Julian blinked, genuinely stunned, before a cold, sarcastic smile spread across his face.
“Well, well,” Julian chuckled, setting his glass down. “Look what crawled out of the swamp. I didn’t think you had it in you, brother.”
“You’ve run out of road, Julian,” Dante said, his voice dangerously low as he advanced across the white marble floor.
Julian didn’t flinch.

Instead, he raised his hand and snapped his fingers.
From the shadows of the master suite and the winding staircases, six heavily armed enforcers emerged, their assault rifles aimed directly at Dante, Salvatore, and Emma.
