Chapter 12 - The Shell Company and the Stolen Trust Fund

The second phase of the trial unraveled the full extent of Daniel’s financial crimes.
Forensic accountant David Lin took the stand, projecting the financial paper trail recovered from my encrypted cloud drive onto the courtroom screens.
“Over an eight-year period,” Lin testified, “Daniel Mercer systematically embezzled $2.4 million from the minor Emma Mercer’s legal testamentary trust established by her grandmother, Evelyn Mercer.”
Lin clicked to the next slide, displaying bank statements showing how Daniel used my college fund to:
Pay off gambling debts at high-stakes offshore casinos.
Fund Caleb’s private country club initiation fees and luxury sports cars.
Pay $250,000 in hush money to Oakridge Prep administrators to conceal physical abuse records.
“Every single dollar intended for Emma’s future,” Lin concluded, “was diverted to maintain Daniel Mercer’s facade of high-society prominence.”
ADA Thorne turned to the defense table.
“Your witness, Counselor.”
Richard Vance, Daniel’s lead attorney, stood up, looked at the undeniable mountain of federal banking records, and slowly shook his head.
“No questions, Your Honor.”

Daniel turned to Vance, his eyes wild with fury, whispering frantically: “Do something! Call the mayor! Call the bank president!”
“It’s over, Daniel,” Vance whispered back, refusing to look him in the eye. “There is nothing left to defend.”
