Chapter 8 - When the Secret Behind Emma’s Father’s Ruin Ties Directly to the Bellini Family Fortune

The next morning, the city was buzzing with news of the federal raids on District Attorney Miller’s mansion.
Meanwhile, in the executive suite of the Moretti Tower, Julian Vance delivered a massive legal package to my father’s hospital room.
I stood beside my father’s bed as the lawyer laid out the official court filings.
“Mr. Reed,” Julian said with deep respect, “the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has officially vacated the 2005 judgment against you. Your engineering license has been fully reinstated with honors.”
My father’s hands shook as he touched the official gold seal of the court.
“And there is more,” Julian continued, glancing at Luca, who stood quietly near the doorway. “Under the federal civil asset forfeiture laws, forty percent of the seized Bellini construction assets have been allocated as restorative compensation for your lost pension, intellectual property, and emotional distress.”
I gasped. “How much is that?”
“Twelve million dollars,” Julian replied with a warm smile.
My father began to weep openly, burying his face in his hands.
“I can buy Emma a home...” he sobbed. “I can take care of my girl...”
Luca walked over to the bed, gently placing a hand on my father’s shoulder.
“Arthur, your daughter took care of you with more courage and loyalty than anyone I have ever seen. You raised an extraordinary woman.”
My father looked up at Luca, his eyes searching the mafia boss’s face.
“You’re Antonio’s boy, aren't you?”
“I am, sir.”
“Your father was a hard man,” Arthur said softly, “but he had a code. He always protected the innocent.”
“I’m doing my best to honor that code, Mr. Reed,” Luca answered sincerely.
I looked at Luca, my heart swelling with an emotion so powerful it took my breath away. He wasn't just a powerful tycoon; he was a man of honor in a city drowning in greed.
As we walked out of the hospital into the crisp winter afternoon, Luca turned to me.
“Tonight is the grand reopening, Emma. Are you ready?”
May you like
I smiled up at him, my fear completely gone.
“I wouldn't miss it for the world.”
