Chapter 15 - The New Mistress of the Gold Coast Mansion and the Legacy Written in Golden Flour

The afternoon sun was warm against our faces as Luca and I walked down the peaceful, tree-lined sidewalk of Taylor Street.
Children were riding bicycles down the lane, and shopkeepers waved to Luca from their storefronts with genuine smiles and warm greetings.
We reached the small historical square near the old church where Antonio Moretti had first settled fifty years ago.
The sound of the church bells rang softly through the spring breeze.
Luca stopped by the blooming rose garden, turning to face me.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box.
My heart skipped a beat.
He opened the box, revealing a stunning, elegant sapphire ring surrounded by a halo of brilliant diamonds—timeless, modest, and breathtaking.
“This ring belonged to my mother,” Luca said softly, his voice full of an emotion he had hidden from the world for decades. “My father gave it to her when they had nothing but a ten-dollar bill and a dream in this very neighborhood.”
He took my hand, kneeling before me on the stone path of Little Italy.
“Emma, you taught me that true power isn't about how many people fear you. It’s about how many people you protect. You stood up to cruelty when you had everything to lose. You brought warmth back into my cold life.”
Tears of pure happiness welled in my eyes.
“Emma Reed,” Luca whispered, looking up at me with all his heart. “Will you marry me? Will you become the true mistress of my home, the partner in my life, and the guardian of our legacy?”
I didn't hesitate for a single second.
“Yes, Luca. A thousand times yes.”
Luca slipped the ring onto my finger. It fit perfectly.
He stood up, wrapping his strong arms around my waist and lifting me off the ground as he kissed me under the golden spring sunshine.
From the front window of Caruso’s Trattoria down the street, Teresa Caruso, my father, and the entire neighborhood burst into loud, joyous cheering, throwing handfuls of flour and rose petals into the air.
The past was healed.
The debt was paid.
